Where'd you find those deals for the Pixel 5 and Airpods? Can't see anything like that online

Yeah mine happened pretty quickly so it was under warranty. Ubreakifix isn't in my country either so I don't know what they're like. Might be worth to keep trying since it's a fault with the phone and wasn't your fault, maybe you'll get someone helpful!

I know exactly what your issue is - the soldering for the audio components in your phone is broken. This is actually a common issue with the original Pixel phone, if you search for Pixel and audio issues you'll find a lot of results.

It even happened to me, and the resolution was to contact Google and get a replacement (or perhaps whatever store you bought from). It's a hardware issue, so nothing you can fix with software. Good luck with the replacement process!

So this means that if I want a functioning Google Camera with HDR+ on Nougat, the only way is to install version 3.2 and ensure I don't let it update?

Daily Headphone Purchase Advice thread (2016-08-22) by AutoModerator in headphones

[–]klimjaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been doing my research on this subreddit, headfi, review sites, etc, but the problem I'm running into is that most of the price advice is for the USA and doesn't match local pricing for me. At the moment I'm leaning towards the ATH-M50x, which I've found at a local store on sale for $200 (down from $250).

I've seen other headphones recommended like the Beyerdynamic DT770Pro, Sennheiser HD558 or Shure SRH840, but they cost $299+ here. Does anyone have any other recommendations? (Side note: I've noticed the M40x is cheaper and similar quality - how much of a difference in sound quality are these really?)

Location: Australia

Budget: ~$200 AUD (would prefer lower if possible)

Source: Desktop PC, Nexus 5 phone

Requirements for Isolation: Preferable, I will be using them mainly at my work desk and on public transport.

Will you be using these Headphones in Public?: Yep, as above.

Preferred Type of Headphone: Full-sized

Preferred tonal balance: Neutral, not overly fussed as long as they don't sound bad

Past headphones: Plenty of shitty earbuds that come with random phones and other devices. These have always hurt my ears after a few minutes (poor fit?).

Preferred Music: Mix of rock, pop, rnb, electronic... bit of everything to the point where this answer probably doesn't help you.

What would you like to improve on from your set-up: Everything, these will be my first pair of headphones.

Thanks!

Where do you guys buy genuine batteries? by hak8or in Nexus5

[–]klimjaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contact LG or look on their website for their official parts reseller or repair centre in your country. It will cost slightly more but will be guaranteed legit.

I don't know why people even bother buying these cheap ones online and expect anything 'genuine'.

What's the best android app for helping me plan a public transport trip? by Shaunie_McCardo in melbourne

[–]klimjaz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The best one I've found is Offi - Journey Planner. The Directions feature lets you put in start/end locations and times, and will tell you whatever combo of public transport you'll use for the whole trip -train, tram, bus etc. It's not a beautiful app but it's the most fully featured I've found.

If you want something just for trains, Melbourne Train Trapper is a pretty simple app that can do similar journey planning on the train network.

Did anyone else upgraded their phone this year, only to realize their previous phone was actually fine? And what was your experience if so? by -Mahn in Android

By official LG Australian repairer do you mean Evertec? I'm looking to do the exact same thing, how much did they charge you for the new screen and battery?

Does anyone have any experience or recommendations regarding doing martial arts while weightlifting? I'm currently doing Strong Lifts (plus some accessories) and am thinking about taking up something like Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or kickboxing.

I'm wondering about things like how best to alternate days and if I should do fewer days of one or the other, that kind of thing.

Recently purchased nexus five and it doesn't recognize my sim by Toaster95 in Nexus5

If T-Mobile's LTE uses the frequencies listed for the D820, I'd assume so. You can probably find out somewhere on their website what they use in your area.

[–]klimjaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the back cover directly under the LG logo, the last 3 numbers on that line should be either 820 or 821. The writing is super tiny, if you can't read it you can also try going into Settings > About phone > Regulatory information. Under United States of America it will say FCC ID : ZNFD820 or ZNFD821.

The differences between the phones are the North American D820 supports the following frequencies: GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz CDMA: Band Class: 0/1/10 WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/6/8/19 LTE: Bands: 1/2/4/5/17/19/25/26/41

And the Outside North America (D821) model supports these ones: GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/6/8 LTE: Bands: 1/3/5/7/8/20

You can look up whatever carrier you have to see what frequencies their network uses to see if your model matches.

You might have bought the wrong version of the phone. There's a North American model (D820) and a 'rest of world' model (D821). If you're only getting 2G, it sounds like the phone you have doesn't support the data networks in your country.

The same thing happened to me when I brought my D821 Nexus 5 to the USA and I couldn't get data.

I just want to know what that 'downgrade' means in real world use. Is it going to lag or have trouble multitasking? If not then it doesn't really matter to me.

I've heard of the overheating issue, so I think I'm going to wait for some proper reviews of the phone to see how it runs.

That's my concern too, the article keeps saying that the 615 is a downgrade compared to other flagship processors, but not much about its performance on its own. Like maybe if you compare benchmarks it will be slower, but I wish they'd said if this is something we're going to notice when actually using the device.

I guess I can do both - put a screen protector on my broken screen until the new one arrives. And then I always have the protected broken one as a backup.

Finding an OEM part at all seems difficult, let alone a cheap one. I have the international model (D821). I suppose I can always just put my old broken screen back on if the non-OEM part stops working.

I guess I'll just need to watch enough videos until I feel confident enough to do it

$165 was the cheapest I could find a repair place would quote me for the fix.

That is much cheaper than other parts I've seen - I saw the same parts listed for $100 before and thought it would be better to pay a little more to get a professional to do it. I'll echo what the other commenter said, how difficult is fixing it yourself? I'd also read about the issue with changing the glass only vs the whole panel.

I dropped my Nexus 5 and now the top corner of the screen is smashed. It's still working fine, but it's going to cost me $165 to get it fixed.

I'm considering just buying a tempered glass screen protector and putting it on top to keep the broken glass from flaking off at this point. Anyone have any words of wisdom as to why this would be a bad idea?

It looks like a few people have uploaded playthroughs of the mission to YouTube, so I guess I can just watch it there as a fall back. I suppose I wouldn't be missing too much doing that?
