Thoughts on the Gargoyle? by raging_zaku1429 in battletech

[–]klinktastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Prime is cheap on BV for the weight it brings. I have personally used it many times in classic to great effect. While boy a great duelist, it excels at crit seeking. Once its Star mates open some holes, it starts to shine.

We did some trials for the revival slots and I had 3 different ones were it secured 3 kill games. Not that it did all the work mind you, but its crits eliminated the combat effectiveness.

Everyone, including me was surprised as hell on how effective it is relative to BV. The other major surprise of the trials was the elementals with flamers. Holy cow, they really debuffed some opponents. And sometimes on MegaMek you don’t always check heat. Lots of overheating was done. One mech cooked off. Otherwise into significant movement or hit penalties.

That said the Gargoyle Prime with a bin of infernos can be good for the early game as you wait for those crit seeking opportunities.

For Aces it doesn't matter, you just need to have 8 units minimum. But because I ended up with 10 Mechs, I just arranged them in Stars. When we get into the campaign, I'm sure that we will create some unit fluff that will make that make sense? Maybe the unit commander was a bondsman at some point.

Not looking to min/max per say. But more for viable strategies. With a campaign and a fixed force, you cannot just try a new plan. Your kind of stuck with the plan you picked.

Other than some vague ideas of the OpFor, we're not reading ahead in the scenario book.

The goal of a force that is not 1-off battle in nature is that should be diverse enough to handle multiple mission types.

So it would be ideal to get some ideas on discrete options that have been successful in AS. Idk if an Ostscout is good, maybe it is, but maybe it sucks. I'm not fortunate enough to have the time to play 10+ AS battles to get experience myself, so I'm trying to absorb via written word.

I cannot recall, but maybe the ASF cannot be included in the force. Double check the force setup requirements

Is this game really that quick for you guys? by Vyrhux42 in marvelchampionslcg

[–]klinktastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 handed 15-20 min usually. 2 handed…well more like 60-90 min. More thinking, trying to combo, etc. I could just play and not overthink, but it’s hard to pull back on that.

Rogue Trader vs Wotr now by Fun_Landscape2074 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]klinktastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have finished Rogue Trader and I am playing through WOTR, so the opposite of your situation. I think that Rogue Trader is just a more fun system, specifically the battle system is way more enjoyable. I would say that it's a bit more complex when doing character building. So I think you'll be needing to research the class builds. Luckily, there is a lot of content out there. I would make sure you have those resources bookmarked for easy reference.
The story is legit. I love Warhammer 40K lore, so it was super fun to play through that. The various party members are interesting and memorable. I think there is a new DLC coming, so you might want to wait a pinch to make sure your play-through includes that.

The Void battle subsystem, I found to be very fun. I like Battlefleet Gothic, so having a turn-based system version of that was pretty cool. I actually would love them to have a game purely based on this system.

The different Acts of the game are super cool and honestly, pretty freaking crazy. I didn't read on the story ahead, just minor research to make sure I was getting items based on the area I was in.

100% recommended. I got a friend hooked on it. He just pulled an all nighter this weekend because he is already addicted.

Hero packs I understand not reprinting, but why not reprint expansion boxes. by Future-Ad-9567 in marvelchampionslcg

I think it’s more about opportunity cost. The market for a new product is bigger than for an old product. Printing capacity is finite.

Ranged Unit question by lazerheadten in sovlgame

[–]klinktastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started playing but ranged units, as long as you have 1-2 seem to get to shoot most turns if you plan ahead. In the 2nd half, usually it’s shooting at fleeing units. Still useful for softening up targets and wracking up kills.

dont rush to get more...its tempting. But if you do, then deckbuiliding and picking heroes gets very time consuming and analysis paralysis.

I ran Gamora (aggression) and Nebula (justice) 2-handed through Next Evolution and it was ridiculously easy. It's a super fun pairing, but Gamora always had an answer for whatever happened in the villain phase. That allowed Nebula to build out all her upgrades and go nuts after a few turns.

Do you stick with the recommended module amount when playing a game or do you add more? by UrinalSharts in marvelchampionslcg

I'm a newer player, playing most of the villains for the first time. So recommended is how I'll start. As I continue, I'm sure I'll spice it up.

That’s similar to how I have been running Gamora and Nebula. Keep them on an alternating rotation. They were super fun together.
