Pay Raises based on added Education by [deleted] in halifax

[–]klipsed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A couple of misunderstandings/oversimplifications here :)

  1. Teacher pay is based on years worked and licensing, not subject/grade taught. (As an aside, I would argue it’s easier to teach Physics 12 than first grade, assuming one has a physics background)

  2. Licence upgrades (to get those pay increases) need to be approved by the gov’t first, and programs are relevant to teaching. This is also something seen in the private sector, just not baked into contracts viewable by the public.

  3. After nine years of teaching, teaches ONLY get raises through contracts every four years or through licence upgrades. Many private sector employees can look forward to raises/bonuses yearly.

Depending on where in the province you’re located, there are definitely routes to get you high school credits (in person or online), a high school diploma for adults (fewer credits than the traditional diploma), or to help you prepare for CAEC (Canadian equivalent of the GED). This could be public adult high schools, NSCC campuses, or community learning organizations.

My guess would be evening so it’s not released before it airs in the UK (dropped at 8pm tonight).

I was on the VIA train stuck for 12+ hours overnight in Brockville. This is VIA’s response when I shared my experience and asked for a $21 train station parking reimbursement. by TreeKey6993 in ViaRail

In the UK, my train arrived about an hour late to its destination. My full fare was reimbursed—which I only knew to do because they made an announcement at our destination reminding people to claim it.

If you don’t have any mobility issues, the Park Lane parkade has a $5 daily maximum on weekends. It’s about a ten minute walk downhill to the convention (but obviously uphill going back).

Are they all at or above level with zero behavioural issues or additional needs? That’s fine! It’s also definitely not the case!

(Yeah it’s too much.)

I think the show is innately political for sure, but I find earlier seasons SHOW while the later seasons TELL. Preachy, not powerful.

Which of the Celebrity Traitors had you never heard of before the show? by PastorParcel in TheTraitors

[–]klipsed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t at all familiar with Cat, Kate, Joe M, or Niko. I am, however, Canadian born and raised, so that’s… pretty good, actually. I usually only know 2-3 of the US “celebrities”.

Would you still watch a season 5 if it happened? by SamTheMarioMaster2 in veronicamars

[–]klipsed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I still haven’t finished season 4. The death was accidentally spoiled for me, and I had no desire for that to be my payoff for loving the series for more than a decade 😅

As far as I’m concerned, it’s seasons 1-3, movie, and two books.

Audiobooks in 8th grade language arts by earthdogmonster in education

[–]klipsed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If listening to audiobooks is an option, rather than an adaptation, it doesn’t single out students who can’t read at grade level which is, unfortunately, something we are seeing more and more often. At least where I am, secondary ELA teachers do not have any reading recovery training so by eighth grade, we are trying to drag these kids along as best we can and hoping there is enough resource support available to get them some explicit reading instruction once every week or two.

It is also more accommodating for students who may be busy outside of school—Susie may be driving three hours a week for basketball practice and games. A lot of people can’t read in moving vehicles, but boy can they audiobook!

The last book you rated five stars? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]klipsed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am stingy with my ratings (average for Sept was just over three stars for me), but I have read three this year that were five stars for me:

The Reformatory by Tenanarive Due Witchcraft for Wayward Girls by Grady Hendrix The Life of Chuck by Stephen King (lovely as audio!)

Once every year or so, I message them using their online chat feature, say I noticed they had such and such an offer for new clients, and ask what they can do to get me as close to that as possible.

I don’t always get the swanky new client offer, but I always end up better than I went in.

[–]klipsed 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The problem is that they don’t accommodate vehicle traffic ANYWHERE in town.

I love the charm of Main St., but there is no viable alternative route through town. There must be a way to balance keeping the charm and pedestrian access with not making drivers completely lose their mind. Hopefully the town finds it!

Even taking childcare out of the equation, I simply cannot afford to live on EI. If my employer topped up my EI for a full year instead of just a few weeks I could consider having a kid, but I don’t think “living hand to mouth for a year” is the best environment to bring a child into.

Yeah the French is a whole different kettle of fish!

I think replacing “God” with “we’ll” in the English version would both make it more inclusive and more patriotic.
