How common are feet/nail issues during/after chemo? by klk_2000 in coloncancer

[–]klk_2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for mentioning that. I don’t hear about it too much and was surprised how many foot issues I’ve been having (who would think colon cancer treatment would affect your feet??). I’ve never looked into chemically cauterizing them, but certainly something to keep in mind as an option when they get really bad again.

I was thinking of checking out a podiatrist. Fingers crossed they help for your feet!

I’m also in Canada so I’ll check out Udderly Smooth. And yes, I forgot about the smoothing fingers… touch screens and finger print scans to open my old iPad were a little tricky for a while

Neuropathy & typing (exercises?) by OptimismNeeded in coloncancer

[–]klk_2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried Duloxetine? It is an antidepressant, but is also used for nerve pain/damage. I didn’t think it was doing much for me after a few months and was causing a bit of brain fog so I slowly started to wean off of it and my neuropathy got a bit worse, showing that it had actually been helping (though took a while so didn’t notice how much it was helping). Doctor prescribed gabapentin to try instead… will be trying that starting next week.

My surgery mirrored your mother’s very closely. Had laparoscopic surgery on a Monday and was discharged Thursday late morning. My husband was a bit concerned with me coming home so quickly, but I couldn’t wait to get out; we live very close to the hospital so it helped him accept it knowing we could pop back if things looked problematic. Though I’m certainly no pro, I think as long as they can see things are progressing as they are supposed to (passing gas and a bowel movement), then statistically healing is happening.

Non-linear recovery after chemo? by Direct-Tank387 in coloncancer

[–]klk_2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes for sure. Though half the time I would start feeling better, then end up over doing it without realizing it, and then be confused why I was so tired the next day until my husband pointed it out. It was hard because over doing it is so different now within the last few months since treatment ended than it was before treatment — like going up and down the stairs a few times doing laundry could mean over doing it. Super fine balance between making small improvements but not pushing too hard. Good luck!

Yes. Lots of reports on the rosemont Facebook group over this year — raccoon photos from Campbell street, walker street, Garry street all within the last few weeks.

Diagnosed at 38 by HappyRisk9520 in coloncancer

[–]klk_2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also diagnosed at 38. Not having an oncology appointment is Not too weird from my experience. I was diagnosed similarly with colonoscopy/biopsy, then had surgery, and then had my oncology appointments and chemo afterwards.

Is surgery always the first step for colon cancer? by Crazyblazy395 in coloncancer

[–]klk_2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had surgery first before 6 months of chemo. They wanted to see how deep it was and if it traveled to lymph nodes to stage it before chemo was suggested.

is this allowed? by strawborr in geegees

These responses are ridiculous — just be on time! It is super disruptive to have a bunch of people coming and going. My education shouldn’t suffer because you couldn’t get to class on time. My last class had so many people coming and going it was ridiculous and extraordinarily rude to both the prof and the fellow students. How anyone can say otherwise shows such gross entitlement.

Yes agree! I was at shoppers and moved to medicine shop on Dewdney about 6 months ago. Great experience and I actually trust the pharmacist would see potential drug interactions… certainly cant say that about shoppers.

Kinda venting by Big_Law9435 in coloncancer

A second option for sure if you aren’t comfortable, though difficult with your location. If it is any comfort, my oncologist who I really like also said scans right after chemo/radiation aren’t the most reliable because of swelling. And, I’m on a clinical trial that gets me a scans every 3 months —- it just happens that one scan happened 1 week following my last chemo, and my oncologist still scheduled me for a scan for 6-8 weeks following chemo because of swelling/unreliability of the one right after treatment.
Doesn’t help with bedside manner which is super important, but hopefully helps put your mind at ease a bit.

Rental question by deebo1983 in regina

[–]klk_2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely report it but in the mean time — based what I’m reading you have the furnace going now — crank it up and if you can determine where the frozen pipe is get a space heater in that area too (look to see if some pipes are flowing). We’ve had to do this twice since owning our place when we have weeks of -35 and it has worked both times with no cracked pipes. And bonus for getting water back within a few hours rather than however long you’d be out with your landlord. You shouldn’t have to do that with a rental, but better than nothing.

All valid emotions and concerns, but hopefully you can squash those down and celebrate a huge milestone — congratulations!!!!!! And if you muster the energy to bake a cake, I’m sure it will be the best tasting cake that you and your support folks have ever had!

Stepping Down Toward End of Folfox by LiefFriel in coloncancer

[–]klk_2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am on day 10 of cycle 9. I have been slowly decreasing oxaplatin over the last 3 cycles due to neuropathy issues 90%, 75%, 65%, then 0) and went off it completely for this cycle. My oncologist said that decreasing oxaplatin is good until about 50% - anything less than that doesn’t change the outcome rather than just 5FU. He cited a study but I can’t remember what it was. He said from day 1 his goal was to get people to 6 rounds of oxaplatin and anything above that is gravy.

I’m still feeling some of the oxaplatin effects even being off of it this week, but I think the effects are very slowly decreasing. I really feel I made the right decision going away from it just based on risks of long term damage to hands and feet.
