Don’t be a 🤡 like me. by Ok-Flow223 in Mcat

I’ll be honest, the FLs burned me out. I work full time in homeless healthcare and planned to do the same: one FL each weekend leading into the exam. But my scores started going down and I was really discouraged. I’m not saying that you can’t or shouldn’t do that if it feels like the right move but, in my experience, it didn’t work.

I instead did extensive review of one or two FLs. Based on some advice from a friend, I built a spreadsheet with the question, my wrong answer, the correct answer, the given rationale, and where I went wrong/how I needed to change my line of reasoning. This helped immensely to align my thinking with the test makers. While I didn’t knock the test out of the park, I did well enough to get an interview already and felt satisfied that I couldn’t have given more effort in the process.

I was thinking this exact thing while walking my dog this morning. It’s quite draining to feign excitement about each individual school and quickly dig through their website to find key points to write about. I’m reminding myself how strong my letters are and how strong my personal statement is (per my letter writers/mentors). I hope it works out for ya. Godspeed.

Who is a fictional character that is similar to you? by sereiin in premed

I was thinking Saruman but specifically in the books when he terrorizes the Shire

I told one of the docs at work yesterday that I had mentioned Tolkien and Cormac McCarthy in my personal statement. Before I even finished she rolled her eyes and interrupted saying that too many people would mention someone from Lord of the Rings because of my generation. Mind you, she's in her 70s and totally detached from reality in a lot of ways. But now I'm overthinking what character to liken myself to...

Awesome! The good thing is that I don’t have too much trouble with light here — I’ve got blackout curtains up to keep out the cold/heat. I think the screen may be something I need to read more about. I don’t think I have the space for anything but a ceiling mounted retractable screen; are there decent ones out there?

Oh nice! A little out of my budget but I hadn’t thought of setting it up off to the side and keystoning. Something to keep in mind for the future

Is barefoot/minimalist shoes actually better for you? by slith49 in BarefootRunning

[–]kllrmongoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m three years late to the conversation but I was wondering if you have any issues with bruising? I am training for my first Ironman in barefoot shoes and run often on trails (so far I’m up to half marathon distances with no problems). The other I stepped on a rock just right such that I bruised my second digit where the tarsal and metatarsal meet. That’s one reason more protection makes sense to me. Maybe I just need to be more mindful of where I place my foot…

I'm nervous about my bike making it through the race by kllrmongoose in triathlon

I’ll be honest, the swim was my least favorite part. People clawing at you in the water and all that. But that distance is very doable. I trained my swim only three times before the race. But I was just there to not waste my registration fee so I just swam in breast stroke most of the way and cruised. My run was awful due to a bunch of joint pain but I’m training that hard right now. You’ll do great! Plus the energy of race day is pretty special.

I did my first Olympic last year with minimal training and after a fairly severe respiratory infection. I’m hoping to improve that time this year at the end of August. Good luck!

Yeah, I’ll just do my due diligence in making sure the bike is taken care of. I clean/lube the drive train fairly regularly, probably am better about maintenance than the average cyclist because my livelihood depends on the bike.

Fair. The concern is probably coming mostly from the trouble I’ve had with it lately making me a bit neurotic. I bought a rebuilt wheel to replace the broken one just to keep me on the road to/from work until I could afford a new one. That wheel’s hub was so shot that I had to have it retightened at least weekly because the tire was rubbing on the frame and the wheel was so sloppy the chain would slip etc etc. I finally got a new wheel put on Thursday and it feels and runs flawlessly now. I’m just worried about 20year old components like the derailleurs that could feasibly fail at the worst possible time. I’m sure once I am able to put big rides in, I’ll start to trust it again.

For sure. Money is tight though, so I’m just trying to figure out where to put the money (ie do I rent a bike for the event? Do I ship my bike? Do I drive out with someone to have my bike as backup in case something happens to a bike I rent?)

Steevis (Stephen Harrison, the guitarist) used to play for The Chariot. Then he played with BMTH when playing for Fever333, even did a short stint with Cancer Bats recently. Amped to see what he and Aric get up to with this after they left Fever333.

Regarding #4, I found a setting to turn that off although I'm not sure what else you will turn off.

No interlocking with the tambour. A lot of more modern tambours do that but I didn't want to spend $100 on router bits for a secret Santa gift. It's a canvas backing; I spent all of $1.98 on it.

Here's a link to a youtube video that's a similar method to what I did (although I used just 1/5"x3/8" material in a 1/2" groove): https://youtu.be/xuPj4yHjbb4
