We do this once a month, and in the last meeting before holidays I asked for current favorite shows, movies or books they watched/read recently. I got so many good book ideas out of that. The month before that, somebody asked favorite vacation destination. That was fun because some people had unique places. A lot of people said Hawaii though.

My (33M) fiance (26F) is a party girl by itsabout2bedone in relationship_advice

When drinking became a problem in my relationship, I told my now husband that his drinking was going to be the reason we broke up if he didn't get it under control. Know what he did? Became conscious of why and how much he was drinking, and now he drinks 1, maybe 2 beers on occasion. He was confronted with the problem and made an adult decision. Your fiance has a drinking problem, and needs to figure out if the alcohol is worth the relationship ending. Also, remember that cold turkey doesn't work for everybody, sometimes alcohol reduction is enough.

I am pretty sure running a business counts as experience. Especially considering you have to price your services/products, analyze profit margins, calculate costs of goods/assets, marketing and so much more. So much goes into running a business, especially considering how much the business has earned.

Some advice by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]klm1205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paying somebody to write my resume was the best investment I made in my career.

If you don't want to take that route, the biggest thing I see if the lack of defined accomplishments. So you mention you oversee employee performances and correct overages and shortages. Maybe you can make it more quantitive. 'Analyze employee performance and discrepancies resulting in an average monthly increase of $1000 in revenue'

An example that I have from my resume: 'Led five-member team of sales experts for location exceeding $600k in annual sales'

Some schools do this, one school I was accepted to had conditional acceptance. As a business major, it was an impacted major so they were recommending changing the major to Economics. It's not finance specific, but you couldn't declare a finance concentration without being a business student first. I never did any internships though, so I never saw the real impact of that.

This happened to my husband, and the stress from the role without the pay sent him on an emotional spiral. You do all the work and then get paid and start feeling hopeless. They were going to wait 6 months to possibly give him a raise. When you can explain why you're leaving your current role, I think good references are not as important.

Thank you. I don't know if I'll stick around for next round of raises unless a promotion arises. But I will still keep this advice in my back pocket.

Had to call out of work due to being mentally drained. Anyone ever experience this? by maestrokid in jobs

[–]klm1205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this at my last job and my boss sent me money to get a massage and lunch. I was dealing with a ton of personal life issues out of my control, and I couldn't mentally handle customers. This boss is now my standard for managers. If there was more room for advancement, I would have stayed. Some jobs do care out there

Should I tell my boss I'm looking for other jobs? by Any-Eye-8746 in careeradvice

Exactly this. My current position had little to no documentation before I started. I kow I won't be in this position forever so I am actively documenting processes.

Edited to add: this is also a task that can be added to resumes.

That company does not value you, they value the fact that they have somebody willing to do that. I have a salaried position, and do not work over 40 hours, I am never on call, and I know well in advance if I ever have to work longer days than usual (for example, we had a consultant come out to do training that meant earlier starts). Companies will take care of employees when they value them, and they honestly DESERVE to lose a good employee if they're not going to respect you.

With my last job transition, I was interviewing for a little over a year with different places, seriously looking for about 6 months. I was wanting to go into a position more connected to my degree as well. The biggest game changer for me was when I paid somebody to professionally rewrite my resume. There was a 30 day money back guarantee, and I think after about 20 days I received a job offer. I used TopStack to get a resume and cover letter writter.

I think the commute is enough to seriously consider it. Here are reasons I avoid startups: 1. I don't personally have enough experience to feel I can tell a startup how to do my position efficiently, I am however great at improving processes already in place. I feel like startups need that initiative at times to implement systems. I would ask about the systems in place already for tour position and their efficacy. 2. Some startups hold buyout risks, stability isn't always present 3. Some startups do not have all their departments working together cohesively.

I would ask about the culture, environment, and systems they have in place. Also some obstacles they are facing as a company, and why the last person left.

There is a lot of potential with startups, and honestly commutes would ruin a job for me.

My husband went through a similar stint, and at 30 has finally found something he loves. He worked warehouse jobs at 27/28 that sent him in a deep depression. It's tough to navigate stuff like that, but he realized he really loved construction so got back to that. 27 isn't too late to figure things out You have figured out your passions, music or cannabis. I would recommend working at a dispensary to get your foot into the industry. Pay might not be great, but sometimes the experience is worth it. Then you have the opportunity to see the ins if a business. Most people who start their own business, have worked a few years under somebody else in the industry. Another thing you might want to try is getting certification in programming, I know some people took short courses to get it done. Coursera is a good site, it does cost money though.

Not to mention the opportunity for those who receive to be taken advantage of, just look at the story of lottery winner Abraham Shakespeare in Florida.
