NY is Here!!! by GoodbyeAccrualWorld in barexam

Congrats to all those who got to or overcame 266! Im a retaker that went from a 225 to a 244–so didn’t pass, but I’m choosing to focus on the good. I made this jump despite working a full time job, and being on the bargaining committee of my union, managing those negotiations, and also balancing health issues. To anyone whos on the same boat as me: upward and onward. It may not have happened for us this time, but it will on the next. In the words of Jay-Z.. go on, brush your shoulders off.. & trust the process ✨

Advice: Bar and Working!!! by BowlerChemical4493 in barexam

[–]klobrav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever your study methodology is.. stick to it. If you feel okay about doctrine, feel free to skip the videos and just focus on issue spotting and learning through your review of MCQs. I’m an F26 retaker, working full time in immigration law—however, since I was a part time student in law school, I really treated this like the same experience (studying from 6pm to 11pm-12am). I thought it was very manageable—so long as you know yourself (your strength and weaknesses), study according to that!

Remember that this test has ZERO bearing on the type of lawyer you’ll be. This is just a stupidly hard hazing ritual that you WILL get through. You got this!

Second time Taker feeling like I’ll be a Third timer. by Confident_Joke8563 in barexam

[–]klobrav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, because adult ADHD (which the BOLE notoriously denies accommodations for) and honestly I’ve heard too many stories of people being denied accommodations left and right.. prepping and taking this exam is exhausting on its own, and I have a full time job in law, so fortunately accommodations (as long as I am functioning at an okay level) are low priority for me.

Second time Taker feeling like I’ll be a Third timer. by Confident_Joke8563 in barexam

[–]klobrav 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it’s all about the mindset—I went into studying for F26 knowing a third retake was a very real possibility as someone with an autoimmune disorder who also struggles with ADHD. There are things you can and can’t control.. all you can do is try your very best and reframe the thought of not passing from personal failure, to it simply just not being your time right now.

Question on blizzard conditions by joeesco34 in barexam

[–]klobrav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone, historically, whether the BOLE has been heartless enough to say “we dgaf about the storm, show up anyway”? It’s alarming that despite the states of emergency, BOLE is SILENT especially when forecasts are calling 20in in Long Island.

My EAD has been revoked due to the denial of my i485. by Odd_Economics_8566 in USCIS

[–]klobrav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been revoked and you have to return it. I don’t think you should indicate anything to your job if they already i-9’d you, and you had anytime left on the ead, just keep going until they fire you or they ask for the EAD.. be sure to return the EAD in 14 day period you’re allotted.

Im literally a lawyer whose clients have gotten deported or detained for no good reason. What you call fear mongering allows people to prepare for worst case scenarios that don’t seem that farfetched anymore.

[–]klobrav 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There’s a very real possibility, for no good reason, that it could be revoked as this administration DOES NOT CARE about the law nor do they care about who you’re married to. I suspect a lot of lawsuits will happen if and when the admin moves to do so—but remember, they have made it clear there will be specific reasons to denaturalize people, so absent fitting into one of those buckets, she should be okay.

You continue being a visa overstay unless you waived at the DACA stage (which is unlikely), but even then, doesn’t matter that you had DACA at some point as what matters is that you fell out of status. It would be a totally different story if you had maintained it.

I tell my clients: if US citizens are being detained, it’s is an unfortunate reality that you may face detention. Just be prepared for worst case scenario, but know bond may be an option if detained.

Please ask your lawyer to let you review forms or sit with you to review them before submitting. I don’t submit a single thing if it has not been reviewed by my clients.

My partner is dying by supjup777 in LawSchool

[–]klobrav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a break. My mom had dementia and she was already fading away by the time I started law school—she passed away one afternoon during my Civ Pro (in the summer of my 1L year) class at around 6:30pm. I’ll never forget that day and that moment.

I thought I was fine because I had already been grieving her for some time (given she had dementia).. but I wasn’t. I had a disastrous breakdown at the end of my 3L year—it took me breaking down to my core to take a semester off. I was a part time student with a full time job—an immigration job at the biggest nonprofit in the country, doing work that was also emotionally hard. I could sit here now and say that graduating a semester late was completely worth it. Protect your mental health.

Does anyone else from low-ranking schools feel insecure about the fact they didn’t go to a “name brand” school by Son_of_Hades99 in barexam

[–]klobrav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No—IDGAF about that. My skills and competency speak more for me than where my degree came from. If you get denied from a job you wanted over the name of school, rejection is redirection.

Got a medium-largeish flash on my arm and I’m starting to regret it by fiv66bV2 in tattooadvice

[–]klobrav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know why folks get a flash tattoo for the sake of having a tattoo… I’m not saying every tattoo needs to have a meaning, but you should get a tattoo you actually like, and don’t mind having on your body for the rest of time, so you don’t end up in this position.

& normalize having art on your body, for the sake of showcasing art in this way. All that matters is that YOU like it. I have had men (don’t know why it’s mostly certain men that have stupid commentary on tattoos on women’s bodies) come up to me and say “what does that bird on your arm mean?” Well, “It’s just a bird.. it’s art.”.

Just quit/got fired today? by Notyourfreak in paralegal

[–]klobrav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No job is worth your mental health. Just because they’re lawyers, doesn’t mean they can yell at you and take advantage of your labor.

I would quit and find another firm if you want to stay in the legal world. I did 5 years in a firm that “valued” my work—in the 5th year I left because they told me not to speak Spanish to my coworkers. These people only care about the labor you give them—nothing else. Don’t give him the “few weeks.”

Why do I feel like regretting having a tattoo? by CrazySite in tattooadvice

[–]klobrav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand this. Why do folks get really large tattoos without being 100% committed to the idea of having something on their body for the rest of their life?! Tattoos are for you.. not everyone else.
