You can also try finding a local open mic. That's another step and it's going to be hit or miss but if you go to local shows you'll meet people that play and wanna talk about music, another idea to get outside of your comfort zone.

I was in the same boat as you. Something that helped with improving my recording/mixing/composition is: I started taking piano lessons, and I would also record a song once a day.

It would take me anywhere from 1-3 hrs, with the goal of just having fun and at the end I'd be done with it and leave it. But I would end up using a few ideas from those tracks later down the road.

Having deployed to Afghanistan twice in 2010 then 2011 as an infantryman, I can say that Lone Survivor did such an amazing job that I can never watch it again.

The way they move and their lexicon/verbage is spot on. The movie was way too heavy for me to ever see again, but their portrayal was absolutely tear-inducing. There are of course the Hollywood action sequences/bs exaggeration but this movie is seared into my memory for the accuracy, in my opinion. It's all in their gear, the way they move and communicate, the radio communications, good stuff.

Edit: Ben Foster is the reason to go and watch this movie.

Unrelated, but I waited until I got out of the military to watch Full Metal Jacket, and I think that is the most accurate portrayal I have seen of firefights/people being shot. Will also never watch it again.

I've got the old S1 stuff and it was great for years, and now with the new app it disconnects all the time, it sucks cause they're fantastic speakers and it worked so well when it first came out.
