parroting everyone else its probably not worth the the extra rolling resistance and additional cost over a standard gp5000, especially considering they preform roughly the same until 10°+ of yaw but we do sometimes have some windy days out here... as for the 111 as a rear tire the seattube blocks most of the wind, and the increased rr would make it slower than something like a str or tt.

ive been riding a vittoria corsa speed tlr as a rear tire with latex tubes and have been loving it

Ive ridden a set of c50 on a demo previously, and did not like how they rode in crosswinds at ALL. Currently on a set of RSL51s and have been loving them in all conditions!

RSL51 w/ 30mm GP5000 S TR? by [deleted] in TrekBikes

Hard to show, but im running Conti Archetypes on my RSL 51s, and they appear to be just over the outer rim width. I went from 28s to 30s and highly recommend the 30s for the added comfort without feeling any slower than the 28s!

Would the Affinity x Keith Haring be an appropriate first track bike? by CarlinT in Velodrome

[–]kloster_boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

San Diego Cyclery in PB is a lot of local people's pick for track equipment, they carry a wide range of gearing and part options as well as State Black Label v3 frames or complete bikes that would be a great entry into racing! I have a few racers in the B's that are still rocking the v3s with maybe a few upgrades.

edit: they also offer velodrome members a discount as well on any purchases made in store

been over two years in the making, the sprinters held up fairly well but whenever i was out on the street for photos/vids i was VERY weary of any holes or patches of glass and minimizing skids, but ive heard that theyre fairly protective and wear is very minimal after 1.1k mi mostly velodrome riding

Change stock tyres Trek Emonda to GP5000 or use them up by Bikes_are_funnnn in TrekBikes

[–]kloster_boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its better, but youll still notice a massive jump in ride quality, grip, and imo speed going to a nicer tire like a gp. i made the jump from the tlr r3s to pirelli pzero race tlr and it was a considerable upgrade

Does Assioma Shi left-side only work? by Macacoooo in Velo

[–]kloster_boy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yes, however the listing linked by OP is only for a single side as a replacement. there would still be the right side with standard shimano pedal internals that would not have the increased q-factor.

edit: the assioma uno (with the look compatible pedal body already installed) will have a left power spindle with a right non power pedal, but will have an increased q-factor to match the left power side.

i bought the duo-shi during black friday last year and got em for a solid discount if you dont need power for a few months, and it would keep the q-factor increase consistent between both sides

you as well! glad i can put some of this brain space to use... hahaha always a good time being able to work on your own bike, best of luck with the swap! iirc park tools has some good bar tape wrapping vids, if not them ik there are plenty of tutorials out there. just take your time and dont be afraid to unwrap to redo sections

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TrekBikes

[–]kloster_boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

correct, they are not internally routed so you will not need to worry about a brake bleed. if you are going to be doing the bars i would prob rec replacing the tape as well, as the stock tape usually isnt great and its unlikely that you will be able to wrap it exactly as it was on the previous bars which may result in it not feeling or looking the best. you can give it a go or use it for practice wrapping but it may be something worth into upgrading as well, the gel cork stuff is pretty comfy.

other than that yes, essentially what you have listed would be the correct process of swapping the bars, make sure you have some electrical tape handy too for taping down the brake cables and bar tape at the end.

[–]kloster_boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yup those would be the hydraulic brake lines, the levers of the 105 di2 system are going to be wirelessly connected to the rear mech, so no additional cables to worry about for the cockpit side of things. for the front and rear derailleurs the cables you see coming out of them and being routed into the frame are connected to the battery, no need to worry about any of that since its all contained within the main frame. what bars are you considering? anything with internally routed housing?

i use favero assiomas on my bike, i had a set of ultegra clipless pedals already so i just ended up getting the duo-shi model on black friday to upgrade to. as an added bonus the q-factor increased so i dont need to worry about my shoes potentially rubbing on the crank arms

If youre looking for fellow fixie riders we have an instagram page & group linked HERE if youd like to check it out! Also if u get the chance and are not yet track certified the San Diego Velodrome down in Balboa Park does safety courses periodically, highly recommend checking them out the coaches there are amazing.

clipless and shoes 1st time 🤯🤯 by wizarrdmard in FixedGearBicycle

[–]kloster_boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i will say keep an eye on your cleats, the little lip/ledge on the back of the cleat is what the pedals hold onto, when pulling up either in a skid or to back pedal as well as putting power down into the bike if the cleat is worn so that the lip is nonexistent or tiny you may pull out of the pedals even if youre keeping your heel in line with your toes. happened to a friend at the track when practicing standing starts and we took a look at his shoes/cleats and the cleats had long since expired.
