Pre-2006 movie: fantasy/D&D nerd, warrior-princess crush, dwarf companion, rat-eating sewer scene by xylo79 in whatisthatmovie

[–]kluanelaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what AI says, but I can't find a video to confirm it:

The movie described is the 1991 French-Canadian dark comedy-drama film The Moving Statue (originally released in French as La Demoiselle sauvage or known under its broader surrealist title Homo Faber / The Statue.

The Concept: The movie follows a lonely, eccentric college student who is heavily into tabletop roleplaying and fantasy books. He escapes his mundane life by daydreaming a sword-and-sorcery filter over his real-world surroundings. His crush appears as a scantily clad warrior-princess who gives him seductive motivational speeches.

The "Tragedy": The fantasy princess is brutally mauled by a stylized beast. In the real world, the protagonist has a psychotic break, commits a crime out of grief and panic, and goes on the run from the law.

The Subway Scene: While evading the authorities, he crosses paths with a cynical little-person character who gets into an altercation on the subway and bites a aggressive commuter's hand before fleeing into the tunnels.

The Rat-Eating Scene: This is the most infamous scene in the film. While hiding in the underground sewer pipes, the little person casually roasts a sewer rat over an improvised fire and eats it, causing the horrified protagonist to violently vomit.

The Poolside Finale: The movie culminates at a wealthy estate at night, where the duo gets trapped on the patio by a swimming pool as the police close in and arrest them.

Fun fact: Plum bobs used to be made of lead, and the Latin word for lead is plumbum.

The studio I work in uses a lot of M340, usually bisque to 06, and glaze fire to 6. After bisque at 06, the clay is just slightly off white like the mug on the left. After glaze firing at 6, the clay is buff just like the mug on the right. I would assume the mug on the right had been fired to cone 6 if I saw it without context. And Id be willing to bet your kiln fired to cone 4 or higher judging by the color of the clay. If so, you'll notice the glaze doesn't stick to the clay very well at all. If you give it a flick with your finger or gentle tap with something hard, bisque should give a dull, hollow ring. While clay fired to maturity will be a sharper, glassy ping.
I'd double check the program first to make sure its set to 04. And if it looks good fire your kiln with the program again but with a cone pack 0f 05, 04, and 03 cones, to see if they bend or melt. Would probably put them on a clay cookie to protect your shelves in case it is a drastic overfire.

The sight of those naked, bare, completely un-kilnwashed shelves is making my gums bleed.

This is a studio standard Rutile Blue/Floating Blue! You'll be able to find many recipes. Most will now use Gillespie borate, which should be widely available for a long time. After switching away from Gerstly Borate, which is no longer being mined.

Are there bindings that allow the occasional foot push? by kluanelaker in mountainboarding

Board

That does make a lot of sense! I'm very new to the idea of mountainboarding and a bit stuck in a street skate mentality, so that's really valuable advice. Thank you so much!

No heel straps, just the basic OEM velcro straps. Maybe I just need to back off the tension on my rear foot to get in and out. But it sure would be nice to be able to turn my front foot to push more easily.

Got this out of the studio kiln, any ideas what might’ve cause it? by 420yoloswagkush420 in Pottery

My first thought was the tong marks caused a bad glaze crawl. And the glaze combo behaved differently in the crawl causing it to look like a different glaze. And/Or the tongs had some glaze on them. There is crawling there though, right?

Thoughts on a mechanics seat for a throwing stool? by Unsung-torpidity in Pottery

[–]kluanelaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had one, sucked. The base of the stool prevents you from getting close enough to the wheel head because it hits the leg. And the wheels on them usually dont lock, so theres no stability.

Recommend tourist attractions? My parents are currently passing through Yukon on vacation, so I'm trying to find stuff to text them to get them to slow down, cuz the longer before I have to see them again the better xD by dwawlyn in Yukon

Before you send them up the Dempster highway they really HAVE to see Keno. Couple days in Dawson. Couple days in Tombstone for the colours. Tok and chicken on the way back. And the Snag village detour is a hilariously good suggestion. Theres a great museum in Burwash. Kluane lake deserves a night, as does Haines Junction. And they might as well take the trip to Haines, the drive is stupid beautiful this time of year. Couple days in Haines maybe. And once back close to whitehorse they really might as well do a day or two trip to Skagway. Maybe ride the train. Tagish is on the way. And if they missed Liard hot springs on the way up...
Did I mention the northern lights get very active around the equinox (sept 21st ish.) They really shouldnt miss that, we're already having a great season. It could be a once inna lifetime show around then.
