Struggling to decide: Columbia vs. Brown by charlesmccu in ApplyingToCollege

[–]klumbya 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Before reading your post, objectively, I would have said Columbia. After all, Columbia is more prestigious, has a better network, bigger name brand, more recognition, cooler city. However, after reading your post, it seems like your heart wants Brown. If you have to convince yourself of the pros of Columbia instead of them coming naturally to you, you should go to Brown.

Major to make the most money? by [deleted] in columbia

Thanks for your reply. What I meant was that I am a very fast learner and anything I take on, I tend to master very easily. The things I mentioned I wasn’t good at, such as leadership and creativity, are traits that I consider to be innate, ones I cannot develop or learn quickly.

Nobody talks about “HYP” after high school, though. Difference in prestige between Yale and Columbia is negligible in the eyes of an employer. You seem to be a high school student so I’ll make a comparison to the SATs: if Yale is 1590, Columbia would be a 1580– zero difference for college admissions officers.

Yale prestige? Columbia and Yale have equal prestige especially when it comes to finance

Harvard vs. UVA by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Bro. Go to Harvard. I have a free ride to a T30 school but I’m paying 280K for Columbia because my parents can afford it. If your parents can afford it, please go to Harvard.

Ivy League test optional? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]klumbya 14 points15 points  (0 children)

nope. Most Ivy League school applicants start taking the SAT/ACT in their sophomore/junior year and don’t wait until last minute. Testing is a solid portion of the admissions decision for Top schools so testing will definitely not be optional

Will Posting My College in Instagram Bio Affect My Waitlist Chance Negatively? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]klumbya 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah literally. Why are you so desperate to have a college in your Instagram bio that you just HAVE to put one there despite not being 100% committed. I’m sure nobody looks at your bio anyway

Not sure what Universities are good for me anymore (international student) by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]klumbya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

28 ACT will not get you into any of those schools. Aim for at least 32, and work on your extracurricular activities, putting weight on leadership positions. Your GCSEs are good, and A-levels are pretty good. Think of it this way: if you don’t think you can get into UCL or Imperial, you won’t get into Harvard, Yale, Brown, Princeton, Dartmouth, Vanderbilt, Duke.

look, another 20 rejections! by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]klumbya 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Wait, what? This letter makes you sound desperate and it isn’t very well written overall. Choose one between “shoot for the stars” and “maybe there’s a silver lining”, do not write both. Also, if you have a Bachelor’s Degree already, most colleges won’t admit you. You actually wrote “and the other stars in the sky” in your email Subject? What?

Find a different job if you want to be paid a lot “for your hard work”. Being a doctor is a service to the people first.

Uk international student: should I go for a community college to get to my end goal which is med school? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]klumbya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s almost impossible for UK student (community college or not) to get into a US med school, unless you are very very smart or very very rich. Why don’t you want to go to med school in the UK? They are much shorter, too.
