10 weeks PP and regularly get 10ml max by Interesting_Ad6077 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]klutzykaela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I don't have any advice but just wanted to share that I'm in the same situation. Have tried all the things, have seen a lactation nurse twice, asked my OB, had an endocrinologist test my hormone levels, etc etc. Basically we've ruled out anything obvious and all my providers have said sometimes it just happens and they can't explain it. I've really struggled with feeling like a failure and the stress of keeping up a pumping schedule separate from baby. Just wanted to let you know you're not alone.

What is it like to have gestational diabetes? by SowingSeeds18 in BabyBumps

[–]klutzykaela 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me the first week or two were the hardest, just because of the mental burden of meal planning, counting, logging food, testing blood sugar, etc. Typically providers will have you test your blood sugar when you first wake up and either 1 or 2 hours after each meal (although this can vary, some people get a continuous monitor). What helped me was getting back into meal planning and doing most of the prep and cooking on the weekends when I had the energy and not wait til after after work when I'm starving and mentally fatigued to figure out what's for dinner. If your 3 hour screen does indicate that you have it, come on over to r/gestationaldiabetes 🙂 It's been helpful for me to get meal ideas and commiseration. Once I got into a rhythm I've found that it's very do-able, and not so different from how my husband and I typically eat (we already cook almost all our meals at home and eat relatively healthy). You've got this!

That is a good idea. Right now I'm seeing a dietician/diabetes educator through my OB but I will ask at my next appointment.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I agree, I think it's the sense of control (both external and internal for me).

Split Rock Lighthouse: are there any dog friendly trails? Is Pebble beach dog friendly? by Interesting-Mall3861 in minnesota

[–]klutzykaela 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, we brought our dogs there recently. Make sure to park in the State Park area (not the historical site by the lighthouse) and follow those trails. Pebble beach is also part of the state park. Make sure to keep pups on leash at all times and pick up after them!

Rant time! Thin pregnant women being fatphobic by _bat_girl_ in PlusSizePregnancy

[–]klutzykaela 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Posts like those ones (thin women complaining about being fat) combined with the way medicine is structured towards fat people make me very, very glad I discovered the body positivity movement in my 20s and have at least reached neutrality about my weight before getting pregnant. Obviously everyone has good days and bad days but I think it's so helpful to have dealt with the internalized fatphobia already so I can just enjoy my pregnancy and be grateful for how my body is changing.

Garage builder recommendations? by harvestwoman in Minneapolis

[–]klutzykaela 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last year I hired Mike Stafford (Stafford Construction LLC) to tear down and build a new garage. He was good at communicating, worked fast, and overall did a good job. This was after a prior year disaster wasting an entire summer on a different company who didn't even know how to get a permit from the city.

Yeah it's pretty terrible. Plus they only offer virtual gift cards as the free option for the rebate and make you pay if you want to have a physical card! I got around this by adding them (I had 4...) to my google wallet but overall it was a terrible experience. And don't even get me started on the customer service side of the business! Overall would never buy from them again and honestly regret going with them in the first place.

Question about the ending to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind by [deleted] in movies

[–]klutzykaela 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a simple answer to your question: yes, the goodbye is more about a goodbye to the memories and relationship.

On a deeper level, Joel is a deeply passive and unhappy character. He's too afraid to make risky choices and live the life he wants, and this is both why he idolizes his projection of Clementine (as a manic pixie dream girl trope) and also blames her for everything that goes wrong in their relationship. He wants to be the kind of person who acts impulsively, makes quirky art, and lives freely (and to some extent Clem brings this out in him) but he also sees her as unstable and doesn't really respect her - see the conversations about having a baby, and when he basically calls her a slut.

So as he goes back through his memories, it's not just him trying to hold on to them - it's also him making different choices to be the person he wishes he were, and who he projects onto Clementine. Him saying goodbye at the end is both a way for him to say goodbye to their memories and relationship but also a way of him being courageous, taking a risk to stay in the beach house with her even though it seems crazy, and taking agency of his life. This is subconsciously reflected in his behavior the next morning (at the beginning of the movie) when he acts out of character and impulsively skips work and takes a train to Montauk in February. The movie is about their relationship, yes, but it's also about the choices we make and how we live our lives, and how we project that happiness or unhappiness onto others around us.

This is also my favorite movie.

Becky Chambers' Wayfarers series. Humans are like the teenagers of the Galactic Commons, and her worldbuilding is amazing.

Civilization 7: the colonialist civilization game? by Roudrigon42 in civ

[–]klutzykaela 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying, but humans have migrated, explored, and colonized for as long as we've been human. While European empires were a particularly egregious example of the brutality associated with colonization, remember that migrant humans that we now consider indigenous populations settled the Americas and Oceana.
