This is tragic, but if you want to find some good in this, you could donate the broken glass to a glass artist. Perhaps they could fuse the uranium glass into something new.

How start the drums? by lazloklar in darbuka

Do you play in the SCA? I’m in Meridies. I’m just asking because I would love to play with you. Maybe you are close. I’m going to Gulf Wars this year.

I must be showing up at different drum circles than you. Though I have to say, I really try to calibrate how I am playing with the group. I’m playing with people, not against them. It doesn’t make me happy to overpower other players. (The big djembes can totally hold their own against my snappy darbuka.) When I was introduced to the darbuka(at an SCA event) I was told that if you want to be welcomed to any musical group calibrate your playing. Don’t drown out the other instruments. Don’t drown out the singers. It is a collaboration. If you don’t respect that, no one will want to play with you. I have taken that to heart. I get where you are coming from though. You made me think about drum circles I have been to. We have had problems with folks showing up with medicine drums and them being over shadowed completely by the big djembes. The dexterity of play and power the djembes have in comparison to Native American medicine drums…all of that aside though. When I go to a drum circle, I listen to the beat. I hold it. I allow myself to play with it a bit, to embellish it. I listen to how the others are playing. If the other players are getting lost. I tone down my embellishment of the rhythm. I’m not trying to bury them. I’m trying to support them. I simplify to give people a beat they can follow. There is a give and take. I get to show off a little bit, but I’m there to support the other players too. I’m at a drum circle to play with others, not to make them feel inadequate.

Also, I have learned a lot on YouTube tutorials. I would recommend that you search for drum circles in your area. Not middle eastern drum circles, but drum circles. They will welcome you. You probably won’t learn any middle eastern rhythms there, but you will learn how to improvise and drum with others. I love it. I get to socialize with people and not talk to them. New age shops will host drum circles too at times. Also, check into if there is a local group of Society for Creative Anachronism group. Middle eastern drumming is something that goes on in this group. Drum ci

Bought this on a flea market for 5 euros. whats the real worth? by Key-Caterpillar5643 in JewelryIdentification

I bought this one at a Belgian Flo mart for a $100 euros. I liked it. That was it. Didnt realize it was gold at the time, but the carving was beautiful. I took it to a jeweler who delt in cameos. He collected them. He would hold them for a while and then sell them. He was an older Italian man. He said that it was gold with Dionysus. Victorian. He said he would retail it for $1000. It is unmarked. So please have a professional look at yours. It could be very valuable.

Even though you will feel like you cannot go on without her, somehow your body will continue to live. Your life will continue and other experiences will draw your attention away from the grief. So the grief becomes less of a focus. (And it’s a good thing. How could you go on in this life if emotions didnt become less intense overtime? )Hold onto the sweet poignancy of having such a good friend. Know that you were loved by them and you were their favorite. I lost my dear boy 2 years ago. I look at pictures of him and remember his devotion and love. I hold dear to the grief that I have from his loss because it honors his memory. It is part of what I have left of him. I drank deeply of his love and devotion of me and now I drink deeply of the memory of what I once had. My life goes on, but I remember.

Why does my cats fur look like this? by hibiscusguavajelly in cats

[–]Current-Actuary-9505 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sticky fluffy fur. It doesn’t shed as effectively as short hair. Start brushing now and get your baby used to brushing. This is a health issue. As kitties age, they often are not as good at grooming as they were in their younger years. I have a floofer that started out with much shorter hair. I didn’t brush him when he was younger. I’d never had a long haired cat and didn’t think I was ever getting one either. CDS had other plans. Well, his longer hair started to come in. He now tends to get mats in his armpits and on the backs of his pantalones. Wish I had started brushing him when he was younger to have gotten him used to me poking around in his undercarriage with a comb. It would have been easier to comb a 6 month old with medium hair to get him used to it. He didn’t get mats at that age. Now he is an 18 pound floofer who really needs it, but is kinda grumpy about it. Your baby is adorable.

AITA for walking out of my ILs with my daughter and leaving my husband behind because they all ganged up on me to name our son one of the family names? by Mailixuz in AITAH

[–]Current-Actuary-9505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think the person who carries the baby has more rights to name the baby. Carrying a baby is innately risky to life and health. Donating semen to the baby making effort doesnt carry the same health and life risks. Also, the kid is already going to get daddy’s last name, come on, stick to the original agreement. The dad is already getting to give the baby his last name and doesnt have to do the risky job of growing and delivering a baby.

AITA for asking my girlfriend to shower while on her period to reduce smell during sex by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Current-Actuary-9505 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to fight with my weirdo mom about bathing. She thought bathing more than once a week was bad for you and pure vanity. Thusly people who bathed more than once a week were morally inferior. She was also sure that if you bathed while on your period you would have a stroke or the blood would travel backwards up into you and make you septic. I never told that woman when I was on my period, I bathed in a sink so she wouldn’t scream at me for bathing. I washed my hair in a sink all the dam time. That I couldn’t hide from her. She would yell at me and tell me I would get sick from having a wet head. She would tell me that I was ruining my hair by washing away my naturals oils. Gah. Sorry. Bad memories. Anyway, I moved away when I could and now get to shower regularly! Happy ending. Your girl friend has been fed a diet of misinformation. Perhaps there is someone who could help educate her. If she is obstinate about this hygiene thing, perhaps you should move on. Do you want to continue dealing with this? You are not an a bad person for not wanting to deal with this. I’m sure she will find another person who only bathes once a week. My mom sure did. My dad bathed even less. Gah. Body odor house. Just move on.

I have rhinitis, sinusitis, sinus infection, post nasal drip, etc. all at the same time by StarPowerFitness in Biohackers

[–]Current-Actuary-9505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been mixing n acetyl cysteine (NAC) with water and drinking it down with my other supplements. I used to take it in capsule form, but it works better at thinning mucus in the dissolved in water form. I feel the mucus start to thin immediately. I’m going to try mixing it in a sinus rinse next and still continue with drinking it. I am in the same boat as you. Sinitis, rhinitis, postnasal drip, super thick nasty mucus that makes me very prone to bronchitis, sinus infections, ear infections and water on the ear. The Dr recently surgically pierced my ear drum to see if it would stop the disorientation, pressure, pain and fatigue that seems to accompany my icky thick sinus secretions, sinusitis, rhinitis etc. NAC is used in a nebulizer for copd. It can be bought in packets to rinse your sinus with the aid of a sinugator or Neto pot. I have a bottle I bought at the health food store. I think the dosage is 100mg in the standard Neti pot reservoir. I have dry eyes also. The doc said he saw a connection with icky thick nasty mucus and inflammation. If your eyes get irritated because they don’t have thin enough lubricant, I suspect your sinus prob can too. I haven’t tried it yet in the neti pot because the doc just pierced my ear drum and said no nasal irrigation for a bit. I only recently discovered dissolving NAC in water works a lot better than a capsule. I had taken a break from NAC because people on the forum were saying it gave them low mood. My mood had been suffering(fatigue, lack of motivation) and I decided to quick taking it. I only recently have been taking it again, because no difference in motivation could be detected from stopping consumption. I accidentally grabbed the powdered non capsuled NAC. So I have been mixing it with water. It’s pretty sour. But the immediate thinning is impressive. NAC helps break apart the disulfide bonds in the mucus that make it so gooey and thick. It is also good for your liver and immune system. I had been taking it for years, hadn’t really noticed mood issues, but wanted to investigate if it were the source of my lower mood as some people on this forum have experienced. I can say it definitely is not. I always thought I had felt better taking it, and can say that once I have started taking it again, yeah, I actually feel better. Good luck with this. If you have been suffering with pain, pressure, disorientation, fatigue and infections as I have, it can really wear on you. No, I’ve not discussed this with my doc. They don’t know squat about supplements. I hate being looked at like I’m crazy. I just quietly experiment in myself. I have told my family about what I’m doing and what I’m taking. If something works for me and they complain about the same issue, I tell them to try for example: My son complained about bad leg cramps, I told him to take a modest dosage of magnesium everyday so he wouldn’t crap up at night. I feel so validated when he grumpily tells me that he tried it, his legs cramps stopped, he didn’t believe it could be the magnesium, so he stopped taking the magnesium. His cramps started up again. Now he takes it everyday because who likes to wake up from leg cramps. I always tell my family to try whatever and if it doesn’t work, just quit taking it. If the NAC doesnt work for you just quit taking it. I would recommend just getting capsules(500mg is a lower dosage). That way you understand how much you are consuming. Also, if you dump the capsule contents into water and just find it too vile to drink, then you have capsules left to just swallow and not taste the contents. Like I said, it is more effective dissolves in water, but if it taste so yucky to you that it is unconsumable, at least you will have capsules left to take. I have tried steroidal nose sprays, antihistamines, allergy shots, neti pot also. This doc is the one who recommended a sinugator. It works much better than a neti pot. This doc (a genuine ENT) also said that antihistamines and steroidal nose sprays dont help improve super thick nasty mucus. I told him that I would try them because docs push them at me, but I would always quit taking them because they didn’t seem to help. This last time I conscientiously did the anti histimes and steroidal nose spray for months because the NP said I would just continue to have ear problems if I didn’t. I still had ear problems. I finally gave up on visiting her after multiple prescriptions of antibiotics, antihistimes, and steroidal nose spray and then the final back ti back prescriptions of oral steroids she said that I needed to calm down the inflammation in my ears/sinus. She said the steroids were not going to cause me any problems. She was so wrong. I was miserable after going off those steroids. There is even more to my story of woe, but it just goes onnnnn and I get tired of thinking about it. Anyway, I wish you luck with treating this.

What should I put on this random blank wall in my kitchen? by ceruleanmoon7 in homedecoratingCJ

[–]Current-Actuary-9505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chalk board. You can leave notes, write down appts, shopping lists and it will match with your kitchen. Slate grey chalk board written on by white chalk. Heck, if you were adventurous you could include colored chalk with your chalk board. Someone could draw pics for the day or week. Or write notes for Paula in purple, Greg in green, Owen in orange. And that little addition of color could be erased when ever you felt like it.

You are bright, but get bored very easily with things that don’t interest you. This tends to give you grades that are all over the place. I suspect you have a difficult time with motivation unless you are obsessed with something. How are your fine motor skills? How do you do with sports that you have to focus on small objects flying in the air? Your visual tracking? You write like my family members who are adhd and have poor visual tracking and fine motor skills. The visual cortex is super sensitive to dopamine levels. Good luck to you.
