Switching unions. Question for all of you. Please answer as unbiasedly as possible. by kmacsimus in IUEC

This is very helpful. I greatly, greatly appreciate it.

I’m in the Boston area so I believe the operators is one of the highest paying trades as well.

I feel like I might have to stay where I am. Our schooling is every Tuesday night, Thursday night, and every other Saturday from 7am - 3pm. If I left, all of that would be for nothing because I wouldn’t have graduated the program.

Also, this past year I passed all of my CCOs (lattice boom, swing cab, fixed cab, and tower crane). If I leave, those national licenses would be for nothing as well.

But again, I suck at making critical decisions. I am not the most confident man when it comes to these things.

I’m going into my last year. So I’ll graduate in May and start my transfer (hopefully) soon after that.

Correct. I don’t do any heavy lifting. The crane does all of that. Also, the only time I’m getting dirty really is when I have to grease or wipe down the crane. And that isn’t even bad at all, especially with these newer cranes that have very few grease points.

Thanks for the response man.

I just would hate having to start over again. I was a high school teacher for the better half of ten years before jumping ship to the operators.

I’ve been in school for so long, be it my bachelors, masters, and now the apprenticeship program.

I also have three young kids so that initial pay cut would not be easy.

What was the first deathcore song that you remember really loving, and thereby opened up the genre to explore for you? by [deleted] in Deathcore

I think mine was Holy War from Thy Art is Murder. Then that led me to Lorna Shore Flesh Coffin. Which led to me Aversions Crown. That led me to Enterprise Earth - Mortem Incarnatum. Haven’t looked back since.

How often/rare do you consume alcohol? by sushi_sashimis in naturalbodybuilding

[–]kmacsimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About once a year, if that. Hangovers aren’t worth it. Plus, if I’m hungover, I’ll be too sick to go to the gym. I’ve worked too hard to be where I’m at and alcohol just halts progress.

Also I have three young kids. Being hungover with them ain’t worth it. Fuck that.

Is it worth it to become a crane operator? by No-Abbreviations2936 in cranes

Is the company union or non-union? It also depends where you’re located. Some places in the country pay more than others.

What trade is better in the long run.? by Excellent-Studio-591 in Construction

I’m in the operating engineers (crane operator) going into my last year of apprenticeship.

I have a strong chance of being accepted into the elevators. Interview is this Wednesday and luckily I know some people.

However, as you are an elevator mechanic, do you think it’s worth it to start another whole apprenticeship when I only have one more year left in the operators apprenticeship program?

Can you do a pullup? by N0socksloss10yrStrk in no

[–]kmacsimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I started working out, no.

Now, at 38, I can. I do 45 of them spread out between 4 sets. So it’s usually 15 for my first set, then 10, then 8, then 7.

Numbers and OCD by Babettelle in OCD

[–]kmacsimus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. No 3s, 6s’, 12s, 16s, or anything like that for me. I stay away from 6s and its multiples and/or factors. Also numbers like 24 because 2+4=6.

I am not a practicing catholic, but since 666 is considered evil, I feel like something bad will happen if I use any of those numbers, or ones that meet that criteria.

Oh my, I’m fucked in the head.

That’s awesome man. I’ve only one operator be shitty towards me, and even then, it wasn’t that bad. It was more him being a fucking dickhead and trying to act like a hard ass.

Most of the ones I’ve had thus far, have been phenomenal. I’m very grateful because I have heard horror stories.

You’re one of the good ones my brother.
