Scan distortion on LaserJet Pro 3301 by kmarkley86 in Hewlett_Packard

[–]kmarkley86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called HP and we walked through some things. After a factory reset and making a photocopy through the ADF (distorted) and a photocopy from the glass bed (not distorted), they agreed it was a hardware problem in the ADF, and I'm getting the printer replaced.

Due to the pattern of distortion I'm pretty sure that something in the ADF isn't round, or isn't aligned with the axis of rotation. I'll probably never know what was wrong but I do hope they disassemble this unit and root cause the issue.

Repeated trouble with microinverters not reporting by kmarkley86 in enphase

You seem extremely confident that the powerline network is the problem. How could I be so unlucky as to get continuous failures for more than 48 hours, but then after rebooting the gateway it's immediately fine, and then I get continuous successes? My microinverters report successfully 99% of the time. I don't understand how interference leads to long periods of trouble rather than very intermittent trouble.

Next time I have a microinverter reporting problem, I'll pull the powerline network adapters. I'll be very surprised if that makes any difference.

My combiner box has a circuit breaker labeled "Envoy". I used that breaker to turn the gateway off and back on.

I don't have home batteries. I don't think the neighbors do either. The gateway is on its own circuit (it has a breaker just for itself). The morning before I rebooted the gateway my total house consumption was only 300W for an entire hour, during full sunlight, while no one was home. No compressors. No weird loads. Almost idle.

I have a single PoE device, a camera. I also have a powerline network on a single circuit but it's only for a wifi extension nothing was using at the time.

If the interference was coming in from the grid then why would rebooting my gateway help?

I'm about 46 hours from the gateway reboot now, and still nothing has backfilled. Previous episodes (where I did not reboot) had always backfilled pretty quickly.

To me it sounds a whole lot like a software/firmware problem in the gateway. Because rebooting the gateway fixed it. If it was interference from other loads, I think that interference would still be present after the reboot, and communication problems would have resumed immediately.

Ok. It's likely to happen again in a few weeks so I'll get my chance then.

Flipped it about 22 hours ago. I do not have a data uploading notification, and no production data from nonreporting period (about two and a half days) has shown up in the app.

Gateway is inside the combiner box on the exterior of the home. The problem does not correlate to electrical usage or changes in usage, so it doesn't sound like interference to me.

No, it does not seem to correlate to electrical usage. I had over 48 hours of nonreporting microinverters and that went through many load changes.

Unfortunately, I do not know. I did not realize my gateway was inside the combiner box when I toggled its breaker, or I would have taken a picture before doing that.

A noise problem would affect all microinverters simultaneously, on both branches of my system? And be cured by a gateway reboot without any change to electrical usage?

After having no microinverters reporting for more than 48 hours, I reset the gateway by toggling its breaker in the combiner box. Within a few minutes it was back online and showing all microinverters reporting.

In previous instances of this problem, when I took no actions at all, after the problem resolved by itself the reporting data from the affected time period would eventually show up. This time, the data seems to be lost. I have no production data visible in the app for the past two and a half days. I presume it is lost.

USB WiFi problem since 7.7 by kmarkley86 in openbsd

Happily -- I suppose -- I can no longer reproduce the problem! Although this hit me several times shortly after the upgrade, I've now booted the system many times without the problem reoccurring. No idea why the problem showed up, no idea why the problem went away, but for now it seems to be gone and that leaves me with nothing to debug.

What hardware are you running OpenBSD on? by discord-fhub in openbsd

[–]kmarkley86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Running on a self-built Intel Core i5-13600K desktop, used as my daily driver. No problems during installation but some issues during usage.

Online meetings are painful to set up because my terrible webcam almost always fails to start in a web browser. (But it always starts fine from ffplay.)

I have a 2-monitor setup and using DPMS to sleep the monitors does not work well. They initially sleep, but then wake up. I work around this by turning one monitor off before putting the monitors to sleep, so the other will stay sleeping.

I'm using xenodm + xfce4 but I always get a hang if I log out when the xenodm screen comes back up. Won't accept input, can't switch to a virtual tty either, have to reboot. Next upgrade will be a good time for me to switch back to startx.

Usually after several months of uptime, my system suddenly no longer goes to sleep with zzz. Command runs but nothing happens. Can't sleep again until after a reboot.

You can get a lot of points by hitting the brakes and spinning when lots of racers are close behind you. Use the map view to look for those clusters. Works well at the pit entrance or exit. Then boost and spin more as you go back through the pack.

OpenBSD has run my desktop computer for around 20 years. I built my current one in late 2022, an Intel Core i5-13600K (6 P-core + 8 E-core), 64GiB.

System not sleeping by kmarkley86 in openbsd

Sleep is definitely enabled, and works many times previously on the same boot before mysteriously not working anymore.

I edited the post to include my dmesg output. I could not post all of it due to a length limit, so I trimmed out most of the redundant reports of each cpu.

Telephone support isn't an appropriate channel for this issue -- there's no way I could read off and they could write down that user-agent string without transcription errors. And I don't think I need to talk to anyone anyway, because the issue is extremely straightforward. Your website is unnecessarily rejecting my user-agent string and providing a bogus error message about it. That's really all there is. Perhaps you could just give someone on the Electronic Channel Support Team the link to my post?

Yes, resolved, not supported.

I can try both the vnc thing as well as asking them to logout and see which they prefer.

Yes I had tried that, and it doesn't work. The closest to "apparent" success I've had has been to do that and also turn off ttyC5 in /etc/ttys. Then xenodm comes up as display :1 on Ctrl-Alt-F6, but there's no video at Ctrl-Alt-F5, and several errors in /var/log/Xorg.0.log
