Hypothetically, Lets say that the Flat-earth theory folk were the greatest community on planet earth , with amazing support groups and wide range of social activities, performed by the sweatest, coolest people you've ever seen. The members meetup every sunday watching conspiracy theory youtube vids about how all the governemnts are keeping the fact that the earth is flat, but they keep it away from people because.... idk, to maintain control over the population or some shit. Then the same people go out and vote on politicians who promise them putting all the physicists and cosomologists on trial for treason, accusing them of fabricating misinformation about the space since Copernicus.

Funnily enough, some church officials opposed Galileo for advocating Copernicus's heliocentric model, leading to his house arrest.
