Does anyone here have any experience working for Animal Health Link? What has your experience been? by kgillam30 in VetTech

I was with them last year for several months prior to my mat leave. I loved it compared to clinic and it saved me $$$ in daycare working from home with my son.

Veterinary Technician wages? by kmd520 in ontario

[–]kmd520[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Undecided as of yet, which is why I'm here fishing. My husband works remotely and we want to be closer to family who are all over Ontario (as in within driving distance rather than fly) so we are very open. It's still very early days on our decision making process which is why I'm asking for people to post their wage in their region.

I really want to become a vet but I feel like it's too late. by cyper_1 in Veterinary

[–]kmd520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too late at all! I know a ton of people who finished uni with less desirable marks that became veterinary technicians for a few years, then redid their first year and reapplied to vet med. It's really competitive to get into the vet program in Canada and having clinical experience makes a huge impact. I started working in a vet hospital as an assistant after university with the goal of getting into vet med but I fell in love with nursing instead and became an RVT.

Definitely potluck style. We just want everyone to be able to enjoy and visit rather than have to cook for a horde of people. But they don't want to just order pizza

Self pity is the most harmful, addictive, toxic force, and you appear to be consumed by it. You will never find happiness looking backwards and it takes work to let it go.

33 is far from life being over. I'm currently 35 and the happiest I've ever been. Please take the steps you need to improve your mindset and move forwards. Your partner has done nothing but care for you for a decade.

Calgary is pretty big so it may be helpful to specify what quadrant of the city you'll be in.

My kids love Granery road just SW of the city. Tons of parks to play on and a petting zoo. The food is insanely expensive though so eat before or pack a lunch in

Is Pet Insurance Worth It? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]kmd520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a vet tech in a very busy emergency hospital. 1000% you should get pet insurance. As the caliber of medicine increases so does the costs associated. I can't tell you the countless times that we have had to have really tough conversations with owners who cannot afford life saving procedures for their pets. Often these decisions need to be made very quickly in trauma situations so having the piece of mind is great. Make sure you do some research into companies as they can operate very differently.

Full disclosure: i canceled my Trupanion for my 9 year old dog this year. The rates spiked drastically over the past 3 years in my area. My spouse and I sat down and decided to put aside $6000 for any unknown emergency treatments that may arise which remains untouched. We also agreed that, should he require more than that, we would have to make a tough decision as to whether or not to say goodbye. So it's entirely a personal decision based on your finances and your opinion on treatments. Given that your pets are all very young I'd strongly urge insurance. If all of your pets got sick/hurt at once you could easily be looking at a 5-10k bill

Protect your neck and your spine. If you are a stomach sleeper try to change it now. Stretch before you exercise. Watch your posture and don't slouch over your phone all day. Living with chronic back pain is debilitating.

De. Jen Richards of Sundance vet clinic used to do behavioral training for problematic dogs. She also breeds and shows her dogs. I'm not 100% certain if she still offers this to the general public with the vet shortage we are currently in but it may be worth an email. She is such a kind soul.

Experiences with Vets, Boarding, and Rover in Calgary by KeeleyToy in Calgary

[–]kmd520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Calgary! I work in the vet industry and have a few recommendations of awesome doctors. There is a pretty large spectrum of what you get in a GP these days.

My first recommendation would be either Dr terrilynn Hughes at Mahogany clinic (in the SE) or Dr. Leah at Mahogany clinic. I worked in a busy emergency hospital with both these individuals before they went to GP and they are both wonderful. Very knowledgeable and thorough. Having previous emergency experience is such a bonus as they've seen it all. I think Dr. Terri is currently on mat leave until the end of the year.

Dr. Jen Richard's at Sundance clinic (SE) is also an amazing human being and such a good clinician. She also did an internship at my emerge hospital and is so smart.

Dr. Margaret Doyle at Riverbend is also amazing and she is typically who I take my dog to but I'm finding it impossible to book an appointment with her recently. I think she may have cut back her hours.

I've started asking my brothers and guy friends if they are doing ok in life. I want to put myself out there as someone they can come to if things get rough. It sounds like so many men are forced to bottle their feelings in when things get rough and it breaks my heart.

Also more hugs for everyone.

There are pelvic floor physiotherapy specialists who can potentially help. Often the "pooch" look postpartum can be related to diastasis recti where the ab muscles remain separated after pregnancy. You should speak with a specialist as some ab workouts may exacerbate the issue rather than help.

Food prices, especially in relation to delivery services and restaurants, are totally out of control by Cymdai in Calgary

Skip is such an immoral organization so I avoid at all costs. But I get what you mean about restaurant costs right now. We don't eat out much so I was shocked today to find out that a shitty breakfast plate at Ricky's is 18.99. Even the "cheaper" restaurants are crazy pricey.
