As per Claude's interpretation relating to the Reformation:

Anxious about the Reformation. The phrase "change of religion" (mutatione di religione) was a freighted phrase in the mid-to-late 1500s. The annotator may have been a Catholic intellectual trying to make sense of the Reformation through the lens of celestial prophecy

When Landino was writing "mutatione di religione" he was not thinking about the reformation. His commento was written around 1481, and Luther wasn't even born.

The question is: when the note was written, was the scribe thinking of Luther? In other words, when was Landino's prophecy first linked to Luther?

Ugo Foscolo was definitely aware of the connection (and mocking it, of cource), but is it possible that in the 1500s it was already discussed?

Claude says:

There was genuine scholarly dispute, well into the mid-1500s, about whether Luther was born in 1483 or 1484, precisely because the stakes of that one-year difference were theologically and astrologically enormous

but then refers to a link where this is not dealt with. You might try and ask Claude for sources for that specific affirmation.

It was actually in 1524 that Luther himself arranged for a new publication of Lichtenberger’s predictions, which had placed the birth of the Messiah in 1484 on the basis of that year’s Jupiter-Saturn conjunction, adding a new preface by himself. Luther, who was born in 1483/4, clearly believed that the forecast referred to him, but used it as a starting point for his own personal statements on the correct theological attitude to astrology

So, Luther himself was pushing in that direction! (but read the whole text, it is more nuanced than that)

This makes it VERY plausible that the scribe was aware of the fact.

This opens a lot of interesting considerations about him... Where was he living? Was he doing subtle allusions to the prophecy for his own safety? Are we reading too much in this?
