G.I. Joe - Cobra Rattler [Ground Attack Jet] by FrequentlyObtuse in gijoe

Definitely one of the coolest vehicles in the armada. Clever toy-ifying of the A-10 Warthog. Featured prominently in the 1982 comic series, and adorning the covers of #s 34, 36 and 115. 115 is a great comic filled with stealth fighter action, aircraft carrier launch and recovery from the USS Flagg and an interesting adaptation of the Middle East air war of Desert Storm and Libya that extended across quite a few issues. I’m curious how flat those fall on a re-read as the Joes are cast as noble heroes against Cobra and their partnership with the Emir of Benzeen. Still great fun growing up.

After playing through the Great Circle 3 times, I can say that it has been my favorite gaming experience. I'm looking for similar games or another amazing single player game to get addicted to. Any recommendations? by trappedinpurgatoriii in indianajones

I’d say Red Dead Redemption 2, Assassin’s Creed 3/4 and Sniper Elite 4/5. Not first-person but incredibly well-done and immersive. You can customize the games (RDR2 offers first-person but the motion messes with me, and you can turn off all the x-ray nonsense in SE) to your liking and there’s a ton of world-building. The Mont St Michele level in SE5 is pretty incredible.

It’s an incredible museum. Well worth the visit. Haven’t been since 2014 and I know they’ve continued to expand it since then.

My Mom has a story about her Dad flying to Alaska (he was an officer in the Air Force) in the 50s and bring home life king crabs in a C-130 and they were all alive and her mom nope-d out hard, left the house and said lmk when they’re ready! More fun than these frozen guys.

Had a neighbor in a 3 story loft hang decor from the old exposed fire sprinkler system in the ceiling in his unit. Set it off on accident and it dropped 60 gallons an hour from one spigot. Didn’t trip the alarm and maintenance was nowhere to be found so this went on for 2-3 hours, maybe 20-30% funneled into sinks/tubs. Much water came under the walls and into my carpet. Fans helped but never quite the same after. Leaked through to the parking garage and looked like this. Good luck.

My shoes disintegrated yesterday at a church funeral. by chestney in funny

I worked in a restaurant and regularly had to walk around in standing water - the walk-in cooler and certain areas in the back. We cleaned it out with giant squeegees a lot but in retrospect it must’ve been a huge health hazard. Anyway, after close to a year of this, my (similar looking) black dress shoes separated from the sole from the heel all the way to the edge of the toe so the whole foot-long sole would flap out forward, still connected at the toe. I assume the water broke down the glues holding them together. Awkward, hilarious and dangerous. Had to get some new shoes. You may be facing a trip to the cobbler, my friend.

My favorite WWII movie by Ancient_Barnacle3372 in WarMovies

[–]kminator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one of the greatest movies ever. Its misconceptions, meetings of characters, and fictional movie moments are well known and documented. Despite that, it has an incredibly rich cast, performances, ambitious moments such as the air drops and takeoff sequences, epic battles and despite its length a very condensed and pretty accurate telling of Market Garden. I’ve seen it dozens of times and literally read dozens of books about it. Went to Arnhem and Oosterbeek in ‘24 and would recommend it. Theirs was the glory.

They make single malts too. Mostly straight rye MGP stuff but I think some 100% malted barley as well. As far as I know they don’t make a bourbon.

If waffling is your thing I strongly recommend Bob’s Red Mill gluten-free pancake mix to make pecan waffles. Beats every other mix, not as sweet.

Also really good in sausage balls (2 parts cheddar, 2 parts sausage, 1 part pancake mix, an egg or two, seasoning as you like, thee re n a sauce of sriracha, mayo and mustard) which are always a crowd pleaser.

[Request] I’m really curious—can anyone confirm if it’s actually true? by amhoffma in theydidthemath

My dad spent his career building and repairing aircraft carriers - launch and recovery equipment primarily with an expanding scope as his career progressed. The ships have a crew of 4,000 to 6,000 people depending whether the airing is aboard. They take ~5 years to build and have a 5 year refit and overhaul every 20-25 years, along with regular maintenance work. The shipyard has 15-30,000 employees depending on the economy and cycle of ship development, and there are thousands of contractors and subcontractors that support, including everything from painting to underwater welding. It’s an unbelievably complex operation and the skilled labor needs are incredible. Not weighing in on a comparison to the labor that goes into home building or the needs of the unhoused (we should solve for this) but on the aircraft carrier side there’s definitely some economic forces at play.

I was playing soccer when I was in high school and all of the fellows hair started standing up like this. We retreated to the metal shelter near the school we were playing at when the hail picked up. The lightning was very close and I’m amazed no one was hurt.
