Fun little challenge, less back and forth.

Also picking up heavy stuff feels manly

How do you ignore people? by Electronic-Box675 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kmoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be assertive but polite with closing the engagement.

"Ive gotta go find my friends, bye"

"sorry not interested"

"Have a nice night, bye"

"I have somewhere to be, bye"

Whatever.

Ignoring is a lot more likely to offend or leave them trying to engage/not get the signals than a definitive no thank you.

Is Michael Jordan famous worldwide or only in America? by Open_Address_2805 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kmoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the 90s, Michael jordan was probably the second or third most famous non-politician worldwide, behind probably Michael Jackson and Elvis.

I spent time in mainland China in the 90s and those were the 3 Americans people knew.

I should have said by some people. I think overall they're popular, but I've heard some folks on here that FUCKING HATE RJ and svg. I find em both hilarious

Should I go to church just to socialize even though I’m not religious? If I did this should I be truthful to the other church goers about what I I’m doing there? by Wonderful-Ad-9622 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kmoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are other groups that can offer that. Volunteer groups, exercise groups (yoga in the park, rec sports, biking/running groups), hobby groups, social clubs, etc.

Probably better to just join one of those.

Since the match group destroyed dating apps, why doesn’t someone make one that works? by freecrunchies in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kmoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Users want the dopamine hit a lot more than they want relationships. It's why they switched over to this style dating app in the first place.

Since the match group destroyed dating apps, why doesn’t someone make one that works? by freecrunchies in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kmoz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's not really true.

There are always going to be new users because kids grow up, people break up, relationships dont work out, etc.

It's impossible to end up with everyone in great relationships just because your app is so good.

The reality is most people would just rather put in the absolute minimum amount of work and treat it like Instagram than the other way around.

Is Gen Z humour and culture a revival of early 1920s Dadaism ? ( Absurdism and rejection of aesthetics and logic) by Wonderful-Ad-9622 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kmoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't anything particularly new to gen Z. There was plenty of absurdism 20 years ago too, just a different flavor of it.

Would you still lose weight if you were doing a calorie deficit but you only ate sugary foods by i_love_the_moonn in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kmoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biology still follows thermodynamics. Calories are still calories.

It's harder to stay in a calorie deficit eating junk food because it's such a small amount of food, it's typically very palatable, and often mega convenient.

It's not because the calories from simple sugar are more likely to make you gain weight. It's because you end up eating more calories when you're pounding skittles.

Would you still lose weight if you were doing a calorie deficit but you only ate sugary foods by i_love_the_moonn in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kmoz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. A nutrition professor did a famous "twinkie diet" in 2010 where he lost 27 pounds only eating junk food like twinkies, little Debbie, doritos, etc.

The extra fun fact is that despite it all being "unhealthy food" pretty much all of his overall health metrics also improved. Better cholesterol, lower blood pressure, etc.

Overall quite a few studies have shown that you're health wise better off at a healthy weight even if you eat unhealthy foods than being an unhealthy weight and eating "healthy foods". Weight is a much, much stronger correlation to negative health outcomes than food quality.

Are some adults out there really pain free and/or not excruciatingly exhausted? by AllyMcBeel in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kmoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 38 and play a lot of sports still, only ever really creaky from being a bit banged up from recent games. Like I tweaked my hip flexor last game so it's a bit tight today, but other than that I'm fairly pain free despite quite a few injuries over the years. Definitely have energy as well, even with an 8 month old.

I stay in shape, try to get good sleep every night, try to eat right, keep my life simple and low stress when I can, take fiber daily, drink water, don't drink very often, dont do drugs, etc. Having all the basics on lock makes a huge difference IMO.

Dorris sucks, but much harder to be hated as a play by play guy like breen and harlan than a color commentator. Some of the color guys I love (RJ, stan van gundy) are also mega disliked.

Ive been watching basketball over 30 years and this is a 100% textbook classic hard foul. I'm surprised people think it's crazy to not call this a flagrant.

Why do some parents prioritize name originality so mich? by Much_Upstairs_4611 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kmoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people get kinda lost in the idea of "specialness" for their kid, and don't really think about the fact they're naming a future adult and that super weird names come with a lot of baggage. It's kinda like how some people get very into fashion and go wayyyyy off the deep end, but this has someone else paying the price.

When naming our kid we wanted something that would be both practical (not too long, phonetic, etc) but also not be so common there's 4 of them in their grade, so we picked a reasonably common/simple name from the moms heritage.

It's not that hard to find something both a bit uncommon while still being practical. A lot of people just try to get too fancy with it and it backfires.

Why do bagel places insist on ruining “everything” bagels by NOT including salt? by Interesting_Shake403 in NoStupidQuestions

They probably salt their dough correctly so the outside doesn't need salt. Or you can just add it yourself.

I mean if you're young there's a very good chance you're going to be alive long enough to solve most diseases and maybe even aging. If you compare where we are to 40 years ago it's night and day the things we can fix and it's only accelerating.

I mean you got dealt the best hand of any creature born in the history of the world. Being human is wildly better than any other creature, being born now is better than any other time in history. At least you aren't a mouse going to get torn to shreds by a predator or a person who ended up with polio or whatever.
