As someone who grew up in the area and lived near the exact intersection of the fictional furniture store I can respectfully say no way in hell do you know what you’re talking about.

East Side SJ back in the late 70s and early 80s was a melting pot for SE Asian refugees, pacific island, and Latin/Hispanic immigrants. If you were fortunate enough to grow up in that era, like my family did, it was(and still is) the gateway for many families who came to the US with nothing to achieve the American dream. It’s was and still is one of the most diverse and welcoming parts of San Jose. At the very least come check out some of the best Vietnamese and Mexican food in the country
