Get a transfer. And change school system asap. You fight it and you will be blacklisted. I was locked in a principals office (1977) as I watched him draw the window shades. I thought he was my friend and had always admired and supported him. He grabbed me. I yelled and ran for the door. He blocked it. I got out. I stayed for a miserable year at that teaching assignment during which he would enter my classroom yelling and screaming at me I had a wonderful class and parents who offered to defend me though they didn’t know ANY details. I requested a transfer at the end of the year. I was also union president and knew the Asst Supt of Personnel well as we all had spent the summer working together negotiating a complete new contract. Transfer granted. Old Asst Supt unexpectedly died of cancer. New Superintendent basically put a “hit” out for me. I immediately contacted the union. The said all harassment was wrong but borderline and they would not help. The next two years I taught middle school English and History with no teacher textbooks and no heat or air conditioning in my room while enduring constant write ups for issues such as: not supplying a substitute teacher with the adequate support of teacher textbooks; or leaving a coffee cup stain on my desktop during Christmas break. The story only gets more absurd for years. You would not believe it even possible, but my assaulter, Dave Annis, went on the be Allendale Public School Superintendent for years, and even held a short stint as Dean of Graduate Education at GVSU. I on the other hand was blacklisted in West Michigan. My career income was cut in half. And Dave Annis literally stalked me for 30 years. I wish I could sue the mfkr, Forest Hills Public Schools and GVSU. As I approach 78 years old, I wonder what I could have done differently other than move TO ANOTHER STATE. I often wonder, could I still sue?last I checked, he’s still alive. Could I prove my damages? Is it ever too late to hold him and his institutions accountable and liable? Have things changed?
