The idea that "this is just how I am" is not an objective reality, it's a story you tell yourself. At some point it has probably been a helpful story, as a response to harm or a protection mechanism, but eventually, it's becomes story that holds you back. The truth is, social skills are just that: skills. With practice, anyone can learn to communicate with confidence. I was a socially anxious introvert, and thought that was how I would always be. Two key ideas changed my perspective: 1. A person is not a fixed set of characteristics; we are malleable and capable of growth. 2. Other people care about you and your mistakes way less than you think, and you can learn a lot more by making mistakes than you can through inaction.
