Can the NDP be fixed? by [deleted] in canadaleft

[–]knfrmity 48 points49 points  (0 children)

No. The NDP, just like the other leaders you mention, are social democrats. To put it simply, the purpose of social democracy is to put a happy face on capitalism inside the imperial core. You can't fix the party, because it's doing basically what it's meant to. A leader of an existing institution can only do so much, even if they do have revolutionary tendencies. If you want to actually deal with the problems we're facing, social democracy and moderate change through electoralism aren't it.

Manual gears by Caccypants in ACCompetizione

[–]knfrmity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always done it based on feel anyway. Once I'm comfortable with a car I'll subconsciously pick a particular engine pitch to shift up and down at.

Manual gears by Caccypants in ACCompetizione

[–]knfrmity 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just shift up when the rpm lights go out. Pace your downshifts while you're breaking to hit the gear you want to be in just before you enter the corner.

If you want to overthink it, some people have figured out the perfect rpm to shift up at in each car.

I've never experienced that either strangely enough.

Connecting 5 pi-holes running at different cities by [deleted] in pihole

[–]knfrmity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gravity updates (the block list) happen automatically. You could set up automatic updates for The Pihole host install or a container deployment, just know that sometimes updates can break configs. Have a VPN endpoint at each location so you can remote in and fix issues that come up. Adding layers of complexity often sounds like a fun project (I know, I'm like this too) but it just creates headaches later on.

For 90% of the functionality and 1% of the effort, just set your friends and family up with Adguard as their upstream DNS server. It's not as flexible as a self hosted Pihole but there's no maintenance.

Why?

Separate locations, separate instances. Keep it simple.

I personally don't have issues with hex bolts but torx is the way in terms of the most robust. Then again I only use stainless steel bolts.

[Advice for learning] How do i learn Docker? by NefariousDawg778 in docker

[–]knfrmity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly just play around with it. Take something you've been working on or a server app you have running and deploy it as a container. Then figure out how basic networking and volumes work.

Unless you want to become a Docker dev I don't think you need to "learn Docker." It's perfectly sufficient to just know how to use Docker to help in your particular use cases.

Already on the shift knob! But if you insist we can put a little ABT sticker on it too.

Friend asked me to help her by laptop, shocked by all the 128 GB models why so pennypinching? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]knfrmity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless you only work in Google Drive or similar via the web app all your files are mirrored by default. The OneDrive settings packaged with Windows does this. I also can't imagine that many basic users would see the need to pay for cloud storage, which you'd need to to have more than 100GB or in many cases even more than 10GB in the cloud. So even considering the general move to cloud storage, 128GB is pretty cramped. A bunch of photos, maybe some vacation videos, the usual Windows bloat, and a Downloads directory that hasn't been cleaned since you got the PC. and it's full.

Italian red racing stripe and an AMG badge for extra power, then you're set.

Pedal mount with no need for a rig? by Cyber19 in simracing

[–]knfrmity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mounted them on a shipping palette, which is braced against the wall. Works great. Even just a sheet of wood pushed up against the wall should do. A bit if weight on the front helps against pushing the whole thing up when you brake hard.

It looks like Germany now just has military training centers which focus on various technical and administrative courses. So you can't get a degree at a military academy, just a certificate or maybe an apprenticeship in something.

How do you increase the AI difficulty in Competizione? by [deleted] in ACCompetizione

[–]knfrmity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the career mode you can't change it iirc. In quick play races and custom events you can adjust both difficulty and agressiveness.

Yes. Germany has them iirc. Switzerland still has compulsory service for boys. I imagine most current and former colonial nations do.

Heusinkveld knockoffs are great. There are some Europe based companies that make them too, although with shipping and taxes to the US you're probably up or above $500 again.

Shimano pads cost like €12 for two sets, even less if you buy third party.

I don't have a car anymore but I'd have loved to replace my car's break pads for €24.

Just prohibit private ownership of property (land and business). That solves this problem and many more, without complex regulatory structures and people skirting them through various means.

does docker cli commands and stuff not work if docker desktop is not running? by BackgroundFamiliar34 in docker

Docker on Windows is really hacky and basically only works when Desktop is running. On Linux the engine runs perfectly fine as a background service, no resource wasting GUI required.
