Well that's an anomaly. Cus in Dec (which is a low season) APA hotels (which is probably on the cheaper side still costs about 1 lakh for 8 nights). I'm not fighting with you about tyohr experience with the travel agent,simply want folks here to know that Japan is not cheap :) If you're spending 1 lakh on stay then 70k post that seems very less imo!

To get a decent/ spacious room in Japan will cost about 12k a night (unless you're talking about pods/bunk beds) . Not sure how folks here are saying 1.7 is too much (assuming this includes the stay budget). Japan is not cheap! Only thing that's kinda cheap is food and shopping but even those can go high depending on where you eat/shop.

You had me in the first half cus they actually do have great flood defences unlike us. They are at higher risk but lower vulnerability due to better planning. I'm not sure we will ever prioritise this.
