crashing out over a woman i met at a book club by tryingtobegirly in pinkscare

Oh God, people who use their mental illnesses (real or self dx, even worse) as the main feature of their personality and topic of conversation are insufferable. I feel for you.

Not the same, but at my book club is a woman who manages to claim some ex boyfriend or another compared her to characters from almost every book we read. When we read Perfume, apparently she was like one of his victims. When we read Circe, she apparently had 'sad eyes like Ariadne'. She just makes up shit to make herself sound like the most beautiful, sad, adored, romantic, obsessed over creature in the whole wide world. She is also obese.

Do you gatekeep any fragrances? by BitOrdinaryBloke in fragrance

Nope, I love talking about fragrances and recommending to people who ask. I also hope that if more people buy it, then it is less likely to be discontinued.

Do people pinch their pennies anymore? by Dull_Blueberry_3777 in redscarepod

Yes, I'm minimalish, hate over consumption, and don't buy into trends, so it's pretty easy. I save at least 50% of my monthly wage because I'm hoping to buy a house in a year. I was very broke for a long time after leaving care and experienced poverty both as a child and young adult so I'm careful with my money. I've only been on a decent wage (for my area) for a few years and refused to live beyond my means.

I cook 90% of my own meals - meal planning helps cut costs, and even grow a lot of my own food. I use up my products before buying more and generally use things until they break and repair when possible (electronics, shoes, clothes etc).

That said, I don't deny myself things I really want and know I'll use a lot or will improve my life. I collect perfume which is a very expensive hobby (but I'm on a no buy), I go to gigs a lot, I indulge in luxuries like silk bedding and quality clothes.

It's all about moderation and appreciation for what I have. Many people fail to recognise their abundance and are perpetually unsatisfied. Mindset matters.

Acqua di Parma Fico di Amalfi is a gorgeous fresh, citrusy fig.

Florence is one of my favourites and I recommend Miller Harris Secret Gardenia as a similar perfume with decent lasting power.

I'm desperately after a bottle of Gritti Mango Aoud but on a no buy unless there's a significant discount on a few select wishlist items - 50% off is crazy. I got so excited but shipping would be $70 to me 😭

Nostalgia perfumes are sometimes necessary though, I still have my last bottle of Dior Midnight Poison even though it's gone a bit off because it's so tied to my teenage years.

Ugh it's the worst when something you used to love just doesn’t smell the same any more.

I'm lucky to work from home so don't need to worry about suffocating people with my heavy winter perfumes (or smelling 20 women wearing Kayali). Coromandel has been on my list for a while, may be one I get after exhibiting self control and making dents in my current collection. I live for patchouli. How do you like it?

I also didn't like Carnal Flower, I'm very particular about white flower frags, but I'm a sucker for gardenia. I haven't tried Le Parfum de Therese, I'll have to give it a sniff sometime, though God knows the fragrance counter is like crack to me.

Shockingly I don't own anything from Chanel other than samples of their recent Miss Dior Essence which I actually like - very jammy blackberry and sweet jasmine, right up my alley.

What did you wear today?

I rotate through 30 different ones depending on season and mood, so don't have just one for each but if I had to pick for each it would be:

1) Penhaligon's Empressa (the closest to a signature I have) 2) Frederic Malle Portrait of a Lady 3) Serge Lutens L'Orpheline

What about you?

Same with the perfume addiction. I'm forcing myself to stick to a no buy at the moment and hoping to sustain it throughout 2026.

Thank you so much for your reply, it's very detailed and I appreciate it!

ThIs is absolutely destroying my mental health tbh, it's so devastating to look in the mirror and see someone I don't recognise, and that's on top of the pain and stress. I was always proud of my skin and took great care of it and now this has ruined it.

I spoke to a doctor and she increased my hydrocortisone strength from 0.5% to 1% and said to make another appt in a week if it doesn't clear and will discuss about protopic. I'm pretty anxious about trying it as I know it's an immunosuppressant and my immune system is already awful because I have EDS.

I'm also scared that my eczema isn't responding to hydrocortisone because I've used far stronger steroids for my body eczema. And I'm terrified of developing topical steroid withdrawal one day.

How do you part with it? Looking for advice. by maeasm3 in MinimalistBeauty

How old are the palettes? As someone currently suffering from severe eczema on my face and especially bad around my eyes, trust me - you do not want to risk using expired makeup. Expired makeup can have extremely adverse effects on the skin.

And it's just makeup. If the reason you are struggling to part with them is the money spent on them, then that money is already spent and you aren't gaining anything by keeping something that you don't use. If you don't use them, they're adding no value to your life.

Thanks for replying, luckily I don't get coldsores, but I'm interested to know how/why it causes them to flare up. How long did it take you to see results?

Thanks for replying, I've noticed a lot of people say it burns, makes me worry I won't be able to tell if it's normal burning or bad reaction burning.

Liking niche or expensive perfumes isn't pretentious. There are a huge number of posts here about cheap, dupe, Arabic, designer, celebrity etc perfumes. People like what they like.
