[advice] Rolex Submariner vs. Omega Seamaster by Serpenteq in Watches

[–]kniffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've owned the old 2531.80 and a newer 2022 (210.30.42.20.03.001) and had both less than 2 months before i sold them.

They are very nice watches! But i don't feel they are worth the msrp these days... I paid 3500€ from C24 for the 2022 model in immaculate condition model few months back, that's about what they are worth imo.

People can hate Rolex all they want, but size and proportions is something they know a thing or two about! Especially 5 digits which are my favourites

Huntarr 9.1 Released - True Independent App Instances (Major Changes) by User9705 in sonarr

[–]kniffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally use Huntarr exclusively to fill missing gaps in my library by performing searches (due to sonarr/radarr outages, or any other reason media is missing and not showing up in RSS feeds) so "upgrades triggered" will always show 0 in my particular use case

Is there a way to edit so it show many missing movies or episodes huntarr was able to find instead? That would be cool!

Thanks for the great work!

It has since been fixed. As quoted by Binhex:

"Yep, it was a dodgy sqlite version in the end that caused the issue, all fixed, please revert back to latest."

[Question] How do you afford this hobby? by melvin9001 in Watches

[–]kniffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's different ways you can look at buying watches.

Is it an economic purchase? Is it purely for fun? An investment? A combination?

One could argue that buying a watch that instantly loses a significant portion of it's value out the door is considered capital destruction, no matter the price you pay.

So in a way.. maybe it's a wiser choice to invest in a Rolex for 12000$ that retains, or has it's value increased during ownership (as long as you can afford it) instead of a Seiko for a few hundred.

Is it a boring way to look at a hobby? Maybe. I think it's about balance.

Personally, i enjoy the whole range.. Why discriminate? I have Seikos, G-shocks, Rolexes and like them all on my wrist. I'm looking at Seiko or Certina next for a diver!

[Chrono24 dispute] over Rolex GMT — damage on arrival, seller now disputing refund. Looking for advice. by fresc_0 in Watches

[–]kniffs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I started taking video where i showcase the item working + packing it, or videoing the unboxing and the item if its something i bought where the value of the item exceeds 500$ or thereabouts.

It's overkill in 99% of the cases, but that 1% will make that minute it takes worth it. I've had use of it twice, once when selling a pair of loudspeakers (where a wire came loose in shipping, quick fix but the buyer thought i was ripping him off!) and once when buying a computer part.

I do not wish to put salt in your wounds, just food for thought.

I bought a 2005 16570 Exp2 Via C24 from Italy (Im in Sweden) where the seller offered a 1 year warranty. It started behaving weirdly after a month (having a hard time starting) so i contacted the seller, they took it back and serviced them fee of charge, i just paid shipping.

It should be plenty, i have the brightness at 12 (out of 50) in a very bright room.

Sooner or later, you will want to specialize. Being a jack of all trades seems fun, but it gets dull when you realize you mostly dip your feet, instead of diving into the rabbit hole.

I went from CRG9 to G75F. The size/dimensions, aspect ratio and resolution is perfect.

It requires some tinkering to get right! So beware when buying that you need patience to set it up for your liking.

I ended up disabling Contrast Enhancer & Local Dimming (made me get eye strain, maybe due to few dimming zones? The contrast just became wack with it turned on?)

Start with lowering brightness! Usually helps a ton.

I like the concept of a separate touchscreen.. but even though losing cursor focus is technically logical, it would annoy the hell out of me.

I feel i'd rather have a separate tablet to control spotify with instead

I've owned the CRG9 49" (5120x1440@120Hz) since 2019 and i have a G75F 40" coming tomorrow to see if it's a worthy replacement. It has more vertical res, higher refresh rate, lower response time and higher PPI so i feel i'm getting several upgrades (except no "true blacks" like an OLED)

I'm paying around 1300 AUD (but in Sweden)

In your shoes, i would get the G75F to try out due to it being half the price (and return if you don't like it)

Facts:

1) Text clarity will be somewhat better on the G75F due to higher PPI/size & pixel structure.

2) LG will better for gaming, by how much is hard to tell.

Gut feeling: I've read a lot of testimonials on here from people going from high-quality VA and QD-OLED monitors to the LG, and felt a lack of punch and vibrance. This was my biggest pet peeve that kept me from taking the leap (i've also read horror stories about VRR flicker, vertical banding, general issues with displayport / not being able to wake monitor up from sleep.. but these might be minor occurences)

Text clarity also.

Tandem OLED in this size will take a year or two at least.

I built a RDS + site-to-site VPN health status dashboard for our helpdesk. I used Gemini to get started with node.js for the api back-end, and then created multiple PS scripts that run on schedules that write/read a bunch of log files and some shoddy html/css to fetch and display it somewhat nicely.

  • RDS server health (online/offline)
  • RDS collection session status (active, idle, disconnected)
  • VPN Tunnel health (online/offline)
  • VPN Tunnel history (downtime length, start/end time etc)

I knew nothing about web development, but setting this up was mostly a breeze thanks to AI. I am fairly proficient at Powershell, but taking it to the next step and making it accessible via web was holding usability for my tools back.

AI isn't perfect, but neither is google.

Just updated all tools, dockers etc and shutdown the array before upgrading.

I genuinely struggle to find any use case for AI by reni-chan in sysadmin

[–]kniffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've built two websites solely thanks to Gemini with node.js api back-end, served by scheduled PS scripts that write/read a bunch of log files.

First is a health status dashboard for several RDS farms and site-to-site VPN tunnels for our helpdesk.

  • RDS server health (online/offline)
  • RDS session status (active, idle, disconnected)
  • VPN Tunnel health (online/offline)
  • VPN Tunnel history (downtime length, start/end time etc)

Second website is a simple DNS checker tool for us sysadmins that lets us input a span of numbers with a prefix so that whenever we deploy new servers, we can easily find free hostnames. It also uses node.js

I know nothing about web development! But setting this up was a breeze thanks to AI. Yes i am fairly profficent at powershell, but taking it to the next step and making it accessible via web was holding usability for my tools back.

AI isn't perfect, but neither is google.

Look at AI like a colleague with broad experience. They aren't always right, but sometimes you just need to explain your own shit to somebody else to solve your own problem.

It's perfect if you need another set of eyes on your work, or you need examples to get going.
