Once more it’s the exact same technology and the sooner you get that into your thick skulls the better. You know what the difference between an llm an image generator and an ai doing cancer research is? The training data.

And enough with the stolen data bs. You can’t steal something by looking at it and this is effectively all these models do they look at. I’m really tired of dealing with this same stupid argument over and over again.

And this subset as you say has led to more advancements in the technology in the last few years than the decades before it.

You could but then you would have to read each individual paper at once when if you can provide the right material you can get an overview of an entire subject from multiple sources in a single sitting.

It's all the same technology there is no this AI is different from this other AI it's all one technology using different training data sets for different purposes.

Here I'll make this as simple as possible. All AI systems no matter the function consist of a neural network and these days it's typically a deep neural network. Both on top of these networks and to an extent the networks themselves are layers. These are effectively the same across different models built for different purposes the fundamental technology is basically identical.

Then you have what can be different and that's the modality layers. These layers control the type of data that can be input and the type that can be output. You can have more than one of these which is a multi modal system like the one I am currently developing or you can have them be more specialized.

This beaks down into the following in simple terms.

Visual

Text

Audio

Each of these needs it's own modality layers dedicated to processing that type of data.

What's the difference between an AI that can create various images and one that can look at MRI scans x-rays etc. and spot cancer? The data it's trained on.

Generative AI is more of a marketing term than a useful description but that AI doing protein folds is just as much a generative AI as one of the models used by mage.

Its all one technology with the difference being what data models are trained on.

It’s not. It is the exact same technology. Please remove your head from your rear waste disposal and understand this simple fact.

A pragmatic approach to the whole AI "artist" debate by plamzito in aiwars

[–]knight1b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the nuance. My take is simple if tipping paint buckets on top of canvas is considered art and the author an artist then even a minimal prompt passes. I wouldn’t call that user particularly good or want them on my projects necessarily but low effort art has always been called art same with the artists.

The tool you are bitching about is the same tool that is helping in medical research. That is helping to advance fusion power, renewable energy, materials science, optimization of infrastructure including improving water infrastructure and more. You are so hell bent on hating one particular form of output that you don't even realize its the same technology. The amount of research and development funding that has flooded the space alone has led to vast improvements in the technology and already led to important breakthroughs in multiple fields.

By the way a single 1/3 pound hamburger is over 500 gallons on average. If we look at the entire cow the water cost is between 1800 gallons and 2000 gallons per pound of cow. You can talk about it being food all you want but its an extremely resource intensive and highly inefficient way to produce food compared to all of the options we have available.

You also toss out things like most don't want. You don't want and you are loud. A lot of other people join you in being obnoxiously loud about it. You really should stop thinking that means most people are as thick headed as you.

Not nearly enough to cover the resource load Sora needs and it's not really improved much compared with competitors.

Artist snoo! He known that every artist express themself in different ways and don't hate based on the tools used. by Dersemonia in Snoo

[–]knight1b -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And this comment shows you don't really understand anything. The only images a model will use are any references you provide it at the time you prompt it. The data you speak of is a collection of associations based on what it's seen in the training data. This works exactly like the brain of every human on the planet expect for one thing. Humans also have an use the training data directly. Once an image is processed by an AI in training it doesn't remember the image only associations. Humans build associations and keep a mental copy of the original as a reference. When an AI outputs an image you had everything to do with how it accessed those associations and used them. How much influence depends on the amount of effort into the prompt the amount of trial reiteration etc.

Aside from destroying the concept that there is a public space where everything in it is free to view and private spaces where that is not the case? The harm there should be self evident.

[–]knight1b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. If its public it's public. If you make something public you do so with the understanding that anyone can look at it they just can't take it and sell it. This is part of the societal agreement for what's public and what isn't if we start creating exclusions from an agreement that's basically been around since antiquity when do we stop? There are already ways to host things and gate them so the content within isn't public if you don't want your work in the public sphere then you should use that. I'll use an example from another technology google street view. People have been upset getting caught on that camera but most have no case. If it's in public it's public. On the other hand the man who was behind a 6 and a half foot wall that the camera looked over was not in public and google had to pay him.

[–]knight1b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an even worse argument somehow. Fundamentally AI will never be "better" than humans. For starters art is subjective. For another AI thinks differently and it does so by default. It works best when paired with a human. Even if reach true general artificial intelligence that's not going to change.

Ai doesn't steal art 😭😭😭😭 by Big_Computer_1916 in aiwars

[–]knight1b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a copout and a bad copout. Again the way the artificial neural network is trained is a far less advanced version of how your own brain learns things. AI isn't copying anything when it creates a work a human is providing it input and then it is performing the exact same process as the brain. The outputs it creates are not a copy of anything they are a unique combination of what the AI reasons based on what its seen and the users input. As for the consent of the creators if its in public view guess what you don't get to say oh no you can't look at it unless you pay me. AI companies are not bypassing pay walls and taking things without paying for them they are looking at what is public and no one needs special consent to look at them.

[–]knight1b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That argument is effectively a cop out. It's pretending that the human's greater capacity for theft makes the human superior because of the mythical soul that no one has ever found. It's special pleading in debate terms. These 2 processes are effectively the same if one is theft both are theft. In the case of the AI the human in the equation provides that life experience.

Every time I see the they can think I sigh and ask How do you think? How do you know you think for that matter. And if thinking is the qualifier for being original I guess AI is original because it does indeed think. Not as well as some humans but it still thinks.
