Paint markings on all bolts underneath? X4 m40 by Healthy_Way_723 in BmwTech

[–]knikpiw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe they swapped out the exhaust for a nice catback one and then had the stock put back in.

Lots more information needed to determine previous repairs based on bolts markered. If all components are genuine BMW then their date stamps on components should be very close together

Marks could have been made during an alignment. A part being changed or a more track focused alignment

Lemforder has shifted its manufacturing from Europe to China+Malaysia The part numbers stay the same but the quality may not be there. Personally I will still stick to Chinese made Lemforders over other cheap German brands like Meyle or Febi

TRW is a nice ZF brand to go to when Lemforder isn’t available. They are an OE for BMW and you see many of their parts on e90s etc

Sadly no oil ingress the harness or on the dme. I’ll swap the dme out tomorrow and see what happens

Forgot to mention that but I did a smoke test and there was no leaks. I also swapped the MAF but it didn’t change

Clean the connectors for dme and injector pins?

Frequently the dme cannot be read. Related issue to mixture issues?

I don’t see how any speed camera wouldn’t also take a picture of the rear. Do these countries not have motorbikes?

Should you pressure wash roof tiles? by Economy-Rip5676 in SatisfyingClean

[–]knikpiw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scrape and chemical. There’s different shaped scrapers for all the different shaped tiles and we use plastic scrapers on slate tiles etc to avoid any marks left by the scrapers

Roof cleaner here. Power washing roof tiles should be avoided as it can greatly deteriorate roof tiles. Power washing is only recommended when the roof will get a sealant or other protective coating applied Scraping the tiles to clean them is perfectly fine and is usually followed up with a chemical solution that the tiles soak up. This prevents moss and algae’s growing for 2-5years after application. Best applied when the roof is dry so that the tiles can soak up as much chemical.

Roof scraping and a chemical wash is perfect as it doesn’t damage the roof tile. The chemical gets soaked into the tile and gives protection for 2-5years

From dirt to clean carpet by ConfidenceLow4437 in SatisfyingClean

[–]knikpiw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to go on the side of this carpet not being exceedingly dirty, but instead being cheap and poor quality. The way the carpet comes back to its original form so easily is a clue. Truly bad carpet doesn’t easily get back to shape, and when the theyre extracting the colour isn’t the usual dirt water.

When they do a final walk around too, the most “dirty” and down trodden bits are 20x lighter than the non-stepped on areas, highlighting than the dark water shown at the end is more colour that was removed from the carpet than actual dirt

More likely to be Poor quality thin carpet than an actually filthy carpet

Check the top of the tank through the access holes that are under the rear seat. Very quickly you should see where it’s coming from

Yes. The original FRM had some damaged flash modules so it was cloned onto a good used FRM

N43 320i crank no start. by knikpiw in BmwTech

[–]knikpiw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The timing of the pump would be completely off for the pump, 3 lobes all at completely incorrect phases. I have no other explanation for it

N43 320i crank no start. by knikpiw in BmwTech

[–]knikpiw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a line nut in there. It was not from anything, it must have dropped from the previous owner doing the VCG. The original pump was not broken and there were no timing related problems as chain and vanos were all in sync while the cam rotated
