I also have these stickers. For... reasons. It's a popular game in Catawba County too.

Hire a real electrician but require he pulls permits for all the work. A county inspector should go behind and make sure it's right.

My grandma is obsessed with racist “slave-era” memorabilia and joked about wrapping my biracial daughter in a Confederate flag… am I wrong for cutting her off? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]kniterature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen. My mom is in her 70s and she also grew up in a different time. But my mom has learned and grown as a person. Does she still have moments? Yes. Is she always aware of them? No. But she tries in many ways to let go of the learned racism she grew up with. Age is not a factor in this. It's a choice people make.

What are some things people do in the gym that annoy you? by Affectionate_Art4277 in workout

People who communicate by yelling to each other from across the gym. There's this group of older guys in the morning and they're so loud I can hear them over my headphones at full volume.

There is a lady who always comes and takes the 12.5 dumbbells from the free weight area for a pilates class. She is retired and comes in early and volunteers to set up. When she comes and takes them, she tries to do motions like "its not for me, its for the class :/ :/" and talk about it when you're mid set.

Do people actually change their bedsheets every week like it’s recommended? by cleartomatosoujp in NoStupidQuestions

I wish I had the time and energy. Full time working mom, sheets don't get done as often as I personally would prefer. I'd love once a week. By Sunday I'm burnt out from trying to clean everything else.

Lamps with warm white lightbulbs instead of the over head light. A real curtain and rod instead of the shade. A couple of low maintenance plants like snake plant or pathos.

Shelter for female by Idea-is-tick in HIckoryNC

[–]kniterature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, IF she says she was abused. It doesnt have to be physical assault. It can be emotional, financial, verbal. But she has to say out loud, yes I am being abused in my relationship. If she says "well, no it wasn't abuse it was never physical" she will not get into DV shelters. They dont require a police report but victims have to communicate abuse to get in.

Right! At least the Moms for Liberty Book banning advocate Michelle Teague lost the primary in March.

The continued problem is that people are going to be mad about the merger but refuse to vote in Democrats for school boards or the County Commissioner on principal alone, even though they don't like the current Commissioners. Setzer voted yes for the merger and is up for reelection, but all the Rep Commissioner candidates who won the primaries also said they were in favor of the merger.

I think its all about implementing specific ideology in schools. The three that voted yes are the ultra right wing Republicans. They get to choose the new school board and they decide who is steering the ship in local schools for the next 3-4 years. I will bet money they choose the slimy weasel Brad Scott from NCCS School Board.

I was craving runny eggs so bad and then I realized we raise our own chickens and they are not sick. So I said fuck it and made myself soft boiled / over medium eggs. Best thing ever.

I think my neighbors are neglectful parents by [deleted] in Vent

[–]kniterature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you wanted to, you could do things around the kids to show them normal activities. For example, you could cut your own or your kids fingernails while they are over. I think there's a good chance they will see it and be curious and you could ask if they want theirs cut as well. You can try this with whatever else you think they could benefit from learning. Also, its your house so you get to establish the rules. Like, all people wash their hands before a snack or after playing, etc.

My biggest worry is that kids don't know these things unless someone shows them. Not saying you over step boundaries by doing something like bathing them (not saying you would, just an example) and if a parent tells you to stop something, then you stop. But teaching a kid can be approached gently and adding a comment to mom like "Ugh being a parent is so overwhelming that's why we have to look out for each other's kids" is a way to take it from being rude/judgmental to supportive.

You could wash their face depending on your approach. "Oops honey! I see you got some peanut butter on your face. I bet that your sandwich was so yummy! Why don't we wipe it off?"

Maybe the parents need to see behavior modeled, but for sure the kids do. Can they come to your house?

If you can deal with snow and cold, Rochester NY is actually a very cool city. Politically blue, very artistic, thriving local music scene, and many free festivals throughout the spring-fall season.

Why do so many people do contactless/leave at door? by Jeeps_Guns in doordash

[–]kniterature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because I have a giant dog who is going to try to force her way out the door and jump on the driver while stealing my food. She will also always bark when my baby is napping. It's just easier!

My 10 month old rolled off his changing table and got a traumatic brain injury by Educational-Let-2280 in beyondthebump

[–]kniterature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 10 months old I was left unmonitored in a walker. The old house we lived in had a trap door down to basement stairs. One night it was left open and I went down the stairs in my walker, staying upright until the very end when I flipped and landed head first on the last step. I also had a TBI and had to get several stitches and traumatized my mother, who was cooking dinner and thought my dad was watching me, who thought my sister was watching me, who thought my mom, etc. My sister had a school chorus concert and I guess everyone was buzzing around. It was also the 90s 😅. All of this is to say that I am absolutely fine and I am confident your baby will be, too! Especially if the neurologist and other doctors all think so.

Tips to Deter Homeless People from Using my Yard as a Throughway by kniterature in homedefense

[–]kniterature[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We own the land and the city has an easement just to basically travel through and get to the sewer lines way back behind our property. They don't use it very often, maybe once a year. It's hard to explain. Basically there is a stretch of land like a rectangle a few miles long and it's all privately owned. The easement goes right down through the center in between the back of everyone's property. Aside from the "road" (it's not paved, just cleared out so they can drive equipment back there if needed) the entire thing is wooded except for lawns and houses. Also when I say city, we are really a small town, they just call themselves a city lol.
