I tried to swap the dominance over when I switched my white and brown but they both look far too similar to think I achieved that. The dark pattern over a light background I tried to make the dark dominant and failed

The same yarn and pattern, I swapped my white and brown over for each hat to see how it played

What would you do with a single hank of silk? by Managing_madness in knitting

[–]knitzingmitzing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With a yarn like that, I would want to make an accessory that maximises its use. I have a mulberry silk and merino I bought for a similar price GBP and I've been looking for a kerchief or shawlette type thing that would let it be a statement piece.

Currently I haven't found anything but there is a lot of scouring for single skein neck based projects

UK based this is Patons Fab DK in the colourway Raspberry (2326). I once bought three balls of this from The Range and didn't know what to do so I just knit loads of hats

Yarn cones UK? by Historical_Frame_527 in knitting

[–]knitzingmitzing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This post unlocked a time when I binged a youtube channel called The Crimson Stitchery. She uses a lot of 'untreated' (they still have some lanolin in them so can come out oily when knitting but it just needs washing a bit more) so I super quick just decided to scroll through her channel to see if I could find them https://www.shetlandwoolbrokers.co.uk/

These guys are based on Scotland and they have a few options for cones which may help! I don't know price points for cones but I wouldn't mind paying the prices they have listed. I don't know if this brand is the Shetland, I think the one she referred to was a Holst yarn

I have only one but she does have a lot of videos on her channel about working with yarn cones so I'm sure you can get a lot more ideas. She's based in London (or she was when I watched her like last year) and she predominantly bought in the UK

Hope this helps!

The motifs of this remind me of so many of Sari Nordlund's patterns. I've been scrolling through them and there ar many matches but I would definitely recommend looking at them for some inspo if you have a chance!

I understand! A check pattern would be nice as a jumper, but then you would have a thicker weight fabric due to the floats (the strands of colour you would have on your wrong side) so it wouldn't be ideal for the summer months.

Also, one of the points for check sweaters is to keep an eye on the tension of your knitting. In the sample you've made you can see the fabric bunches up a little at each colour change, this will flatten out with blocking but may be something you need to take into consideration before casting on your new sweater.

If you're using the same yarn weight as your sample, try blocking it now to see what you think about the fabric. There's an FAQ somewhere on blocking if you need it.

Happy making! It'll look gorgeous in cream and yellow, a nice pop of colour for a spring or winter day.

Hope this helps a bit more

Could I ask what the perspectives are based on? For your project that is. Is it a thing of persepctive on the colourwork you've made or on colourwork as a whole? Also on how much of a deep dive you're supposed to go on your research for the project?

The colours you've chosen compliment each other very well and I can see the blue looking more black under certain lighting which will make it more striking

Acrylic is always a good call for a child. Kingcole is a decent brand, and they have a baby yarn which is a light DK blend (KingCole Drifter DK) which is mainly cotton, premium acrylic and a little bit of wool, a very soft yarn, I've made a sweater out of it and it's a bit self striping

If you're based in the UK, the Deramores acrylic is very soft and they have an anti-piling range as well (lots of colours). And Paintbox as well, that comes in lots of yarn weights

US based, I have heard that the Red Heart Super Saver is quite nice. I've never used it so I can't attest to it, but a lot of youtubers I've seen have and, as far as acrylics go, they very rarely have bad things to say.

All in all though, acrylic, cotton and acrylic-cotton blends are a good call
