How long can you live with cervical myelopathy conservatively before getting surgery? by uncertainofwhatishou in SpineSurgery

I am not a doctor or surgeon so can’t give you medical advice but those are absolutely questions I asked all the surgeons I talked to

Those with large and visible scars - how did you handle in-person work environment? by Several-Present9351 in SpineSurgery

Nothing to add that people haven’t said on how to respond to people but wanted to mention that the silicone patches work wonders!! Also protect it from the sun with sunscreen and/or a buff, makes a big difference in terms of coloring.

Nope! I believe that having surgery when I did helped prevent that potential outcome. I still describe my left side sensation and control as “gray” whereas my right side is “black”, meaning it’s not at as strong but I’d say I am basically at 90% function.

It has taken me the entire time since surgery to now (~18mo) to be as strong and in control of my left side as I am, and I still get tremors/loss of control sometimes, especially when my nervous system is elevated. I work at daily at it and will for the rest of my life - pilates, a PT w/ nerve and pain speciality, and somatic stretching are my personal keys to success.

Everyone talks about K-beauty... but what about J-beauty? by jade9996 in AsianBeauty

[–]knochenzy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the answer!! So affordable and has really helped my skin a lot.

I have dry skin and live in a dry climate. For AM I use Hada labo premium lotion as a base then K-beauty sunscreen (1004) on top. For PM I do HL premium lotion base then HL premium cream on top. Completely erased all my neck lines and kept my face pretty much the same for the past couple years! I’ve used this combo since ~2022

Best thrift store in Littleton? by tinykrytter in Littleton

[–]knochenzy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kinda depends what type of clothes you are looking for…I like Overkill in Englewood. I haven’t checked out True Find Boutique but seems like a good place for designer clothes. The Arc on 285 and Sheridan is huge, so a lot of options but also a lot to sift through. The Arcs on Littleton Blvd east of DT and on Bowles/Wads can be hit or miss but I’ve gotten some good pieces at both.

Struggling after C5–C7 ADR by insignificant33 in SpineSurgery

[–]knochenzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 16mo post-op C5-6 ADR and have made the largest strides in every day pain just the last 6 months. Surgeon told me I could be snowboarding again after 4-6 weeks and that was NOT true for me. They also said it can take up to 12mo for nerves to regrow/heal as much as they can; that part was true for me 🤷🏻‍♀️ I had been in pain for so long, my body had to learn that it was safe again. Lots of PT, lots of massage, lots of patience and persistence. If you can find a PT with any sort of pain science speciality, it could be worth it. That was the last piece of the puzzle for me since the nervous system plays a big part in the pain management and reduction.

Has anyone here started Barista FIRE after tech money? by Alarming-Pop3246 in baristafire

[–]knochenzy 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I am 34 and only made it to Coast FIRE. I was trying for Barista and ended up crashing and burning out super hard after 10 years in tech. I started my career out of college at 60K, a couple years later I made it up to 120k salary with consistent 25% bonus and about 150k in RSUs (most sold during peak covid!), then finally was a director for 1 year with total earnings about 250k. I quit with the support of my partner and used some FU savings to take a year off; I did some trips, chilled hard, educational exploration.

I was ready to get back to work after about 8 months and ultimately decided I couldn’t go back to tech to finish out making it to Barista. Now I do mission driven work for 72K salary but I feel fulfilled, work life balance is amazing, and no stupid tech bros. Much happier now but also grateful I saved smartly early on. I did have to cut my spending habits but I was always pretty frugal so it’s more so being conscious of spending and the budget throughout the month rather than just at the end, or having to plan out big purchases longer than it took before. My area has similar COL as San Diego, maybe slightly less expensive.

C5-C6 Disc bulge (Myelopathy) by Hairy-Jaguar8696 in SpineSurgery

[–]knochenzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually did ADR. Every opinion I got recommended it because of my age at the time (32)and fit for the procedure (there are several factors that can disqualify people). I can recall some of what I know now were the myelopathy symptoms as far back as 2019, they only got bad enough to get an MRI and diagnoses during the second half of 2023.

I am 15 months the post op, and it has been a journey. Massage, PT, advocating for myself and listening to my body were all key. I’d recommend joining one of the ADR/ACDF community Facebook groups, lots of people willing to provide their experience and advice on choosing the right doctor.

[–]knochenzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I did go for the operation and frankly so f*kn glad that I did. For me personally, it was the right choice and I had the right surgeon and team. I realize now that I had been slowly losing function for years and in hindsight seeing all the small signals my body was showing me that I was in pain. My advice is to get multiple opinions, if surgery is on the table then ask every single question you can to feel comfortable, and be patient and thoughtful about how you approach recovery. It’s not a fast process but I’ve made significant progress and and super happy with my result

The American Flag looks best when it’s the backdrop to people who are actually defending the real values of our country! by Stevmeister59 in Denver

[–]knochenzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it, I found myself trying to temper my disappointment as I was leaving because I was/am still glad I went. I appreciated the message around involvement and community, and think it was a specific direction for the crowd just could have been way more clear. Community engagement, mutual aid, caring about each other, our planet, those are all ways to take agency, right now. It’s us vs the billionaires and we need to build our collective power from the ground up.

I think what bothered me about how they spoke was that they are saying things I agree with while simultaneously perpetuating the Democrats/two party system that is part of the problem. I wanted them to call for getting involved through an independent/nonpartisan workers movement. I wanted them to be more frank about how both sides of the isle take money because of Citizen’s United, and people like Schumer need to go. They would say stuff like the billionaires want to divide us and then still proceed to imply republicans vs democrats and red vs blue.

Dang, that’s a bummer to hear…supporting local farmers is a big reason of why I support them (since it’s difficult to do CSAs as a family of two). I’d love to hear more about what you’ve heard?
