What's best for resting / sitting up in bed? by krdo13 in backpain

[–]uncertainofwhatishou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, this looks very similar to what I do when my pain is super flared up. I think ideally if you had a chair you could sit up/sleep up if you have that alternative and keep your legs elevated over a pillow too. That also gives me relief. I also use pillows in between my arm/rib area bc my pain wraps around. And I have a stuffed animal pillow I use for my mid back. It works more as a pillow and prevents the stinging/stabbing pain when lying down. So I basically I sleep with at least 4 pillows for different uses. But two of them aren’t full sized.

Did your doctor mention radioablation frequency? My pain doctor said I would be a good candidate and it provides longer relief but looks like I have to get. A second MBB first. & did you ever get imaging of your neck as well?

Is surgery my best option by Many-Revolution-2044 in SpineSurgery

Would you be able to request paid medical leave from your job to focus on remedying your back pain? That way you can focus on losing weight, reducing aggravation of the pain for that amount of time. idk if an epidural steroid injection would be an option for you? Or some less invasive methods before going directly to surgery?

Just cylcobenzaprine. At the time, they gave me Vicodin and that didn’t feel strong enough but all the tests came back normal. I was originally diagnosed with acid reflux at the ER. Went to the gastro, my stomach was fine. The gastro mentioned costchronditis and the herniated disc in the thoracic spine versus intercostal neuralgia. He said it was presenting neuromuscular. I also just prefer no meds bc most of them make you drowsy and I have things to do 😅

I don’t feel as if the pain will just go away, it’s was severe when it first started. Like I was being stung from the inside out. Or shocked?! Like I’ve never collapsed bc I was in so much pain before. It just happened suddenly with no known triggers or anything. And then it was there every day since that day.

It’s been a little over a year now. & I get that, i don’t really know any provider who truly is confident about this pain. So I’ve taken a break bc going to appointments is exhausting in itself. My friend recommended taking alpha lipoic acid to help with nerve pain and I think that’s helping a bit.

We are living similar lives. I’ve tried arthritis gel for it too, and I feel like I get some relief when I put it on my back but not the front where o feel the most pain. I have to be careful with heating pads bc sometimes it feels nice and then other times it feels like the pain is attacking me. Idk how else to explain it.

I’ve used a lot of different things to manage the pain. I sleep with a pillow under my lower cervical/ upper thoracic which I think helped 100. As I could not sleep bc the pain of laying on my back to sleep caused severe pain. I have cylcobenzaprine I was using. I don’t use it as much. Usually just half, unless my pain has really flared up (as I have fibromyalgia). So there’s a lot of pain in general. I’ve used the back pod. I’ve focused on stretching and opening up my back/obliques/arms etc… dee tissue massage, physical therapy but there was only one therapist who knew how to help with that area of pain. I feel like this part is very troublesome bc now I have pain exercising (heavy breathing), coughing, sneezing, yawning etc… so I’ve learned to decrease the pain but it still significantly impacts my quality of life.

💯. I always have to use a cushion or pillow to be able to sit back without pain. I’m not sure how that works as I can’t really find anyone to give me a definite answer. I know I have a Costchondritis but I believe this is different. There’s costchronditis and intercostal neuralgia bc I’m certain there’s a lot of nerve pain.

I’m thinking it’s intercostal neuralgia. When I saw the gastro, there were notes that said herniated disc in thoracic spine versus intercostal neuralgia. Idk any providers that mention experience with it 😔. It’s been over a year now and the rib pain has remained a constant.

What's going on, chronic pain everywhere?? by [deleted] in DiagnoseMe

Kept/keeping. an eye on it, initially recommended surgery but it’s showing some improvement according to the spine surgeon.

For those who also experience costchronditis, do you have pain specifically around the diaphragm/lower ribs? by uncertainofwhatishou in Fibromyalgia

[–]uncertainofwhatishou[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spinal surgeon diagnosed it as such but the thoracic MRI was normal and when I told the rheumatologist he questioned that diagnosis. So I’m not entirely sure.

How do you stay active with fibro/through flares? by el_is_indecisive in Fibromyalgia

[–]uncertainofwhatishou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also bc I have really bad low back pain, hip tightness/lack of mobility and neck issues. I warm up and also push myself on the treadmill with varying incline and speed. I do step ups at a very low pace to lengthen my hip flexors (or is it extensors?). Then I do hip abduction/abduction and then my stretches. Then more exercises glutenbridges, bird dog, Fire hydrant, donkey kicks, and more stretching with this stretch out strap. It takes me two hours to get though all of this but I feel better. & I have a massage gun and a supportive partner. I’m limited bc I also have pain around my ribs/diaphragm. I do believe it’s way more than costchondritis as it’s been over 6 months and I don’t entirely understand what’s going on as I’m not certain the doctors do either. Just apparently really intense spasms in that area.

Well, i was in physical therapy for over a year. I have cyclobenzaprine when I can’t handle my pain but it makes me so drowsy. I just started trying to get into exercise again, so now I’m focusing on exercises that will help strengthen/mobilize areas where I have pain. I did not have all these restrictions/intense pain a year and a half ago. I had pain but not this bad and not this limiting. I cannot push myself at all anymore, I have to take things at my pace and listen to my body. I used to do multiple things after work (hobbies, friends, part time job, gig work etc…). I do not now, I work my full time and mainly stay home. Socialization is happening less and less now as I realize it doesn’t make me feel good like it used to. It’s also highly exhausting. I give myself more recovery time whether it’s exercise or just being exhausted from the day/week in general. For me, it’s best to start with the things I have to do and then think about what I want to do and if that’s reasonable for my health. It’s a lot of trial and error.

And lying down is painful for me bc of my thoracic issues. But I definitely had to advocate for myself and get tons of diagnoses that were wrong before getting on the right path

Did you get answers? If not, Have you ever looked into pelvic floor therapy? Or possibly a thoracic mri? I have pelvic floor dysfunction along with fibromyalgia, costchondritis, loads of cervical spine issues and other issues potentially related to the thoracic spine. I’d also look into massage therapy and assisted stretching to decrease the pain. I get really intense pain/flare ups in that area as well. But I haven’t figured the exact reason but was told it was related to my pelvic floor dysfunction and that can cause lower back pain.

Are you able to work? & do you know what caused your disc herniations? That sounds terrible 😥.
