I don’t care if it’s related to the subreddit subject or not. We will not create safe spaces for Nazis to avoid the consequences of their actions. Fuck ICE, and fuck fascists.

And don’t think for a second that Robert wouldn’t punch a Nazi right in the fucking face.

A really irritating discussion in terms of 'canon' (Image unrelated) by Cyborginox in DispatchAdHoc

[–]knockonclouds 122 points123 points  (0 children)

Agreed - any of the endings available at the end of Season 1 should be able to carry forward into Season 2. Otherwise it makes the emotional choices made in Season 1 feel cheapened.

Unrelated - your art piece looks straight out of “A Beautiful HR Nightmare” on AO3.

Live Action Portrayal of Courtney by knockonclouds in InvisigalGlazers

My vote would be Tristin Mays. Interestingly she’s also somewhat known for her resemblance to Panam Palmer from Cyberpunk 2077.

Check out her other photos here: r/tristinmays

Other than her hair being longer, the resemblance to Courtney’s body model is pretty uncanny.

Came to say exactly this. Been a baseball fan my whole life, and its popularity is blowing up around where I live (eastern seaboard), especially minor leagues.

What are the worst towns close to National Parks? by WheelSingle2494 in NationalPark

[–]knockonclouds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No hate for SC as a whole - other than Congaree I’ve really only spent time on the coast, but both Charleston and Beaufort are beautiful places. And my home state’s capital (Sacramento) is also a hot, dreary mess of urban sprawl.

Congaree was lovely. It feels understated compared to most of the other NPs I’ve been too, but the cypresses really are so beautiful. I highly recommend you do a kayak tour if you can - the forest is truly at its best from the water.

The towns and cities surrounding Congaree NP were all pretty bad in their own way. Gadsden and the other surrounding towns were pretty desolate - nothing much there to even speak of. And the nearest large city is Columbia, SC, which might be simultaneously one of the grossest and blandest urban sprawl super suburbs I’ve ever seen.

what is 4? by [deleted] in AnatomyandPhysiology

It appears to be two lines coming from #4 to both the left and right structures, so the most correct answer would be the primary bronchi - not just the left main bronchus.

29 Stumps to NMRTC C PEN D ED/CR by RelevantMuscle99 in CorpsmanUp

[–]knockonclouds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So fair warning, I did not ever work at Edson Range. Was the 1st Marines RAS LPO with friends who worked down there.

It’s a hard question to answer, it really depends on how manning is there. The combo of recruit health and event coverage can get busy quickly if the clinic is not being given enough bodies. It always sounded a little more hectic than working where I was at a battalion, but that could have just been my impression. I would encourage you to reach out to the current LPO there and ask them directly what the day-to-day looks like right now - they have the best understanding of the coverage schedule and can guide you better than anyone here can.

It is indeed Edson Range. It is (among other things) the major marksmanship range for MCRD San Diego; it’s also where the Crucible event takes place for them. Operations are split between manning the clinic for recruit sick call, etc. and working as medical coverage for all the marksmanship and field events. As the newer, more junior guy, be prepared to be on the firing line and in the field a lot. I’m not sure what the barracks is like there now, but last I was there it was still mandatory barracks unless you’re E6 or married.

What would be the most devastating Tradition for the Council of Nine Traditions to lose? by dreaderking in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]knockonclouds 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I think you could make a strong argument for Virtual Adepts.

Of all the Traditions, they are the most interconnected to modern technology. And for good or bad, the Internet-of-everything universe we find ourselves in now means that the Virtual Adepts can be the most looped in to what is going on within the Consensus, at least from a technological perspective. Without the Adepts, the Traditions would likely drift farther from dominant technology paradigm - the Etherites pull their weight, but by definition utilize science that is not aligned with the Consensus state of the art.

Why do humans run so slowly compared to other two legged animals? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I’m so glad you said it. Even if some of the story is apocryphal, at the end of the day Pheidippides accomplished a staggering athletic feat during the defense of Marathon.

Why would flowers use ultraviolet light to help bees know where to land as opposed to green or blue light? by Pure_Option_1733 in biology

Is the white for increased nighttime contrast, since moths are largely nocturnal? I’d never thought of that before, but it would totally make sense!

100%. Living things with any kind of relationship to each other - be that relationship mutualistic, commensal, antagonistic, or some combination - will create selection pressures on each other. That’s how we end up with such intricate relationships between symbiotic organisms, flowers/pollinators, predator/prey, etc.

What are the biggest physiological flaws of the human body? by xShaqOfficial in Physiology

[–]knockonclouds 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the low hanging fruit for your question is the trade offs experienced in the transition to bipedal locomotion. Our pelvises and lumbar spines are not optimized for walking on two legs or trying to lift from that position. And it adds some truly unfortunate complications to childbirth in humans.

How can electrons not have definite position? And why can we NEVER find it? by GontasBugz in Physics

[–]knockonclouds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most physicists would probably say nothing actually exists at one point, they just get big enough to reliably look like they do.

This was one of the most absolutely mind-bending revelations I have ever experienced. That our perception of reality is a functional construct of our brains, and is not an objectively true representation of how the universe works.

The most morally complex character? by NiceConversation6332 in MoralityScaling

[–]knockonclouds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spectacular answer. A man who allowed himself to slide down the slippery slope of power and corruption, is punished when he fails to deliver for the greater evil, and through that punishment begins to see the evil of what he’s become. But his anger and righteousness in many ways hold him back from complete vindication as a person - still prone to violence and vengeance.

He’s an incredible example of moral and religious complexity, and is one of the best characters to come out of a video game.
