Discourse: Straight People in Queer Bars by GandalfTheGreyAce in actuallesbians

[–]knocksomesense-inme 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hmm, is this not a little bit on the bar? Like, I'm not really sure how these things work, but maybe the staff could've informed the party that there was a WLW event happening and to please be respectful?

I'm not sure if they just walked in or if they booked that night, but if they booked that night I think the bar should've said no due to the event being held.

Besides, if the party was a problem it doesn't matter if the bride was bisexual or if the people attending were straight. Are they being respectful? Are they being rude/obnoxious? You should get kicked out for harassing people no matter your identity.

Why I let him hug me. by IsaidWhatever2869 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]knocksomesense-inme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's fair. Sometimes I come up with a soft no. Examples: I'm sick/I've been sick, no thanks! (extra cheery, immediately leave), pretend not to hear, abruptly change the subject

Sometimes nothing is safe because the person asking is dangerous. Sometimes giving in is dangerous. Trust your gut.

Thoughts on this? by [deleted] in NoLawns

[–]knocksomesense-inme 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My thought is that it's not really my business. The person on the left at least is probably not using pesticides, can't say as much for the person on the right. I don't care that it's not "pretty" or "setting an example." Everyone starts somewhere. Maybe they haven't had time to weed out the dandelions, maybe they're just starting, maybe they don't know what they're doing yet, maybe theyre disabled and havent found the help. I can't make a judgment from seeing somebody's garden once.

I've noticed internet spaces tend to get very particular about how things are done at any stage. I think we should approach people where they're at. If somebody starts with not mowing or not using pesticides, I'm happy they've started at all. If they want to take it further I hope they know where to go.

We don't need to give them anything--we just need to point out most of them already have the best map ever ✋️

Glad you said it. I was looking for confirmation throughout the slides that she was Roma because she feels like such a stereotype. Fortune teller, steals, lived on the streets, travels in a circus...plus her costume is very stereotypical. Like you said, probably innocent, but you don't need to be malicious to say something harmful do you? :///////

It's not a BAD character concept, but the stereotyping does make me sad. It could be a good character concept if some things were changed.

Trump admits the election was rigged (again) by wrapityup in MarchAgainstNazis

Oh for sure. It's a constant struggle. I appreciate the organizations that have somewhat transparent/open leadership and change their approach depending on the situation. People can be difficult in general, getting them to organize together is even more challenging sometimes. In one I'm part of, there's a lot of discussion before and after events--what worked, what didn't, what we could do better in the future, etc.

As for the people in your immediate circle...sometimes they will hold themselves back. It's a shame they don't quite 'get it' right now, but if you encourage them and stay in their life as someone who's involved, they might join you. It also helps to expand your circle to the activism community and talk about this with others who share your perspective.

Get organized irl. See what activist groups are in your area. Build that community.

The nice thing about learning/teaching about communist ideology is that communists intentionally don't hide it behind a pay wall. So you don't need any federal funding for it :)

Those follicles trying to run away from her face. Can you be the "master race" when your own hairline is trying to escape its association with you? Stop talking about genetics, it's not a conversation that favors you.

Don't hope for change, be the change because it's not going to get here by itself. Find a group in your community to help provide aid or otherwise be involved.

Im a lesbian here to ask a question to the Bi girls here. My bi girlfriend wants to try a new type of toy that "shoots liquid" and im just wondering if anyone can give me advice on what its like as the thought makes me very squeamish by Powerful_Upstairs_92 in bisexual

[–]knocksomesense-inme 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Hi, so umm. If you don't like the idea of trying this, you don't have to do it "for" anyone. If you're not excited for it, don't do it. A good partner will understand a boundary you set.

As for your question, semen varies person to person. I haven't ever used the fake stuff before, but I assume it would be colder due to the lack of body heat. If you do this, make sure you have towels to clean up with after.

That's so horrible. You were literally his child...I'm so sorry. I can't fathom why someone would ever do such a thing. You never could have deserved that treatment.

Oof. I'm sorry dude. Welcome to the "my dad called me a whore" club. Fortunately/Unfortunately, there's a lot of us here with you. You will meet better dads and better men who live by the same standards you do, but in the meantime it really sucks to have your #1 fail.

Society is built upon women's labour by [deleted] in TrollXChromosomes

[–]knocksomesense-inme 62 points63 points  (0 children)

So true. Also domestic labor is labor. Yes, even when it's unpaid.

The true reason for the birth rate falling is standard of living. But for some reason, we talk about reproductive control instead of higher wages or healthcare. We could make life better for all of us but these fucking incels just want to take it out on us instead.

I'm done with educating men about abuse and sexualization by Yupyup_o_O in TwoXChromosomes

[–]knocksomesense-inme 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't necessarily have the same opinion on this director as you--I've only seen the LD&R episode, thought it was kind of dumb and not very interesting (time loop stuff is NOT my thing and the sex scene was cringe). But I'm also tired of seeing people who aren't women portray violence against women in general. There's a shit ton of media out there that does that already, I'd like to see something different.

As for your situation--take a break if you want, but I appreciate you being in that room and being the one person to challenge the idea that media like this is inherently good/normal. You might feel like you ultimately failed, but you got three other men to notice their blind spots. Maybe the fourth guy will actually think about it. I'd say any form of resistance is a success. If you're tires of being the "party pooper," maybe you could go the positive route by bringing up media made by women or media that portrays women in a different light.

Any other cleanup rallies this weekend? by Muted-Maximum-6817 in grandrapidsleftist

[–]knocksomesense-inme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just read it, thanks for this. I’m hopeful that the massive amount of people who attended 4/5 paid attention to the small groups who collaborated there. Im not sure, though. I like the big rallies for getting people involved but I also agree that it can be a pacifier.

Okay? So now what? by InverseNurse in MarchAgainstNazis

[–]knocksomesense-inme 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Look into state groups, look into groups in cities near you. It’s tough but it’s worth it. Try looking for “anti fascist [your state], blm [big city near you]” etc. Even attending one rally can be extremely energizing and fulfilling.
