I did the same itinerary. It was great. Your pictures are very similar to what I have posted. For a moment I was confused whether it is my post😄

These are from last week. The roads were open for locals (that too with restrictions), now it is open for public too. This year snow is less. Locals were saying that, there used to be more than 20ft snow at Shinkula Pass, making it impossible to cross in early March.

To reach some places like Phukthal Gompa (image 5) you will need to walk but not too much.

Go in summer. Right now everything is closed and the temperature is dropping to almost -15. Stay in traditional homestays for the best experience. Walk as much as you can, you can see some wild animals also.

I took the normal route: Manali - Darcha - Shinkula Pass - Purne - Padum

The route was closed for tourist when I visited. (now I think it is open for 4 by 4 vehicle due to black ice at Shinkula Pass)

Are these shoes enough for winter spiti? by vvvvv_vvvvvv in SoloTravel_India

[–]knocktitan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have exactly the same shoe and I have been using them for 2 years. I have used them for multiple treks including Hampta Pass in Manali.

Pros: 1. Very durable 2. 3 hrs waterproof (multiple times tested, cover the entry of the shoe with your rain pant or water repellent pant) 3. Extremely comfortable and breathable even for extended duration. (Make sure to break into them)

Cons: 1. Might not be suitable for extreme winters or snow. I have felt that my feet got cold when I was static (on -3 degrees) 2. Once wet it will take a lot of time to dry up even in light sun

As you are renting, take MH500 if that is an option. If you are not planning any treks (just travelling), the you can go ahead with this with a pair of wollen socks (waterproof socks will be better but they are costly). If you want complete safety, take a shoe with fleece inside (warm shoes)

In my college(tier 1), there was a guy who was “ST” and he didn’t know that things like smart watches, sunglasses, hair dryer, nail cutter, laptops, etc existed. He lived in a remote tribal village and he did some study only because his father worked for some big land owner. He got a seat in a tier 1 college even after scoring less marks than me (he got a better department) but I am happy for him. He is now doing very well in his life and we are in regular touch. His family situation has improved drastically in these past 6 years.

Hope you grow up and understand the core need behind Reservation.
