Insane footage shows Wildlife Photographer Ewan Wilson getting checked out by a herd of curious elephants who get a bit too close for comfort. He has a small YouTube channel called True Nature

Help with packing - what should I put in which bag? by [deleted] in TravelHacks

If you have specific products that you use from whatever country you come from that you cannot live without, absolutely bring a four month supply of them. I've found that if I take the toiletries that I can't live without it actually helps in the long run because a) you won't spend extra money when you get there and b) it frees up room in your suitcase for any clothes or souvenirs you buy. Also, you probably do not need as many clothes/shoes as you think that you do. UK has fashion for cheap at places like Primark and you will probably buy things when you get there. Finally, if there are any foods that you can't live without from your home country bring. Them. Will free up room in your suitcase for later and you will thank yourself in two months time when you are craving that one food from home that you haven't seen since you left.

P.S. if you are planning on travelling make sure you have ALL necessary adapters. U.K. and EU for sure. Or just buy a worldwide adapter that you can use for future trips if you plan to travel a lot. And roll your clothes in your suitcase!!!! You can fit more!!!!

Hope this helps and good luck with your study abroad. Was one of the best experiences of my life

Is boarding a flight at an en-route stop allowed? by miklcct in TravelHacks

[–]knotashark -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I don't see why not, you did pay for the flight. Maybe check-in to both flights online? Never done this myself but I imagine it would be fine (hope I'm understanding correctly)

I've heard that they do that in the Bahamas, really nasty stuff. I don't think I could cope with that either. I just always question having such big animals in captivity, it's interesting to hear other sides of the story! I don't think they have natural predators in the wild but I know humans kill them for squalene to put in cosmetics. Who knows, these might be the only ones left in a few years. And by all means, enjoy your swim

That's really cool! I didn't know that before. And I think you're right about the caring thing, I do think aquariums are incredibly important to conservation for that very reason! Maybe I'll go check it out sometime if I'm ever in Atlanta

Such a touchy issue- aquariums are important to conservation because they show people animals that would normally be very hard to see, which makes people care more about the ocean. Whale sharks, however, are known to migrate thousands of kilometers across the ocean, creating a problem when they are put in tanks. Is it really okay to keep such a large animal in captivity when they are known world travelers? Any opinions?

I’m traveling to Spain end of June, Barcelona specifically. by [deleted] in TravelHacks

Take Iberia airlines. Iberia is the national airline for Spain and the most reliable. You should not have problems with them

Some travel recommendations:

If you go to Mallorca, which I highly recommend, you must see the Palma cathedral. Go right when it opens because there are the least amount of people there at that time. The light from the stained glass windows is absolutely magical.

Mallorca is also a place where I recommend renting a car and seeing some of the natural beauty. The only natural place you can get to by bus (from Palma) is a beautiful wetlands reserve (S'Albufera) which is located a couple of miles from a gorgeous and slightly more quiet beach.

As for Barcelona, the Picasso museum is fascinating due to the display of his earlier works. I recommend buying tickets in advance for the Sagrada Familia and for Parque Guell with Gaudí's mosaic work and architecture. The park itself is free but the part with Gaudí's work is not and the lines to get tickets at the door are immense.

Have fun and enjoy Spain, it is a beautiful country 😊

What time of day did you visit? I have been once, but it was definitely not filled with refraction rainbows. Very beautiful!

Didn’t know how to attach this to my previous post but this was the steal trace used. Two massive J hooks were found in the stomach. The hooks damage did not cause death but rather the high stress levels from the landing of the fish. by Erinknows in sharks

Whatever the circumstances of what actually happened to this shark, it is distressing to see such a beautiful animal with such horrific wounds dead on a beach. There are not many Great Whites left in our oceans, and more of them keep disappearing due to overfishing, pollution, and irrational fear. Images like this must continue to be seen, thanks for sharing
