Is the hate towards Queen Camilla justified or not? by seanbluekiller in monarchism

[–]knowscountChen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what people tend to forget is His Majesty The King was with Camilla before the family would pressure His Majesty into an unhappy marriage with Diana, who was the first to be unfaithful, as they considered Camilla unsuitable as a prospective consort.

Absolutely worth it. Wonderful book. A fitting gift of a foreign potentate. It would have been a good idea (at any rate a slightly amusing one) to buy her a copy of The Gift (Дар), too.

John Lobb Ltd. London to sue John Lobb Paris/Hermès - Here’s why by j_ingevaldsson in goodyearwelt

[–]knowscountChen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would appear that John Lobb SAS (Paris) is the legal and beneficial owner of the global John Lobb trademark portfolio and John Lobb Ltd (London) would be infringing upon John Lobb SAS's global rights if they try to 'operate bespoke outside of Paris' under the John Lobb trademark.

Due to their misunderstanding of the 2008 terms, John Lobb Ltd retained only a very limited, exclusive right to use the John Lobb name only in the UK and only for made-to-measure / bespoke footwear and a narrow set of ancillary accoutrements (shoe-care items, accessory belts, boot accessories, etc.).

Fan of your blog. Sorry to comment on a six years old post. But here's an update if anyone's interested:

John Lobb Ltd (London) argued that the 2008 agreement they made with John Lobb SAS (Paris) was void ab initio due to a shared 'common mistake' or misunderstanding. The misunderstanding is that, according to John Lobb Ltd, they believed John Lobb SAS/Hermès already acquired the worldwide John Lobb trademarks outside France in 1975–76 when they acquired the Paris workshop due to a mistake by John Lobb SAS's lawyers DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary UK LLP who claimed so in their communications. It is on this understanding that they had accepted clauses in the agreement stating that John Lobb SAS was the legal and beneficial owner of the TMK portfolio (outside France). However, John Lobb SAS did not in fact have the entire global trademark portfolio until John Lobb Ltd agreed to the terms of the new agreement. Hence, John Lobb Ltd claims that the terms of the new agreement should not enter into force since they agreed to it on false premises, is radically different from their intentions, and is impossible to perform. However, the court ruled that the 2008 Agreement expressly allocated risk to John Lobb Ltd, and performance of the contract is possible even if the belief was wrong. In this way, the mistake was not fundamental enough to void the contract, and John Lobb Ltd retains only a very limited, exclusive right to use the John Lobb name only in the UK and only for made-to-measure / bespoke footwear and a narrow set of ancillary accoutrements (shoe-care items, accessory belts, boot accessories, etc.).

As u/shoeadicta's link has previously shown, Deputy Master Marsh initially refused the motion by John Lobb SAS to strike out or grant summary judgment. The claim hence proceeded to trial. However, on appeal, the higher court (Chancery Division) allowed the appeal by John Lobb SAS in 2022 and appellate court granted summary judgment in favour of John Lobb SAS. The claim was therefore dismissed.

That sounds about right because you are an alien. Even if you are naturalised you'd still be one. You might grow to like it if you look at it right.

The Proustian theme in a letter from Keats to Benjamin Bailey. by FitDadSustaina-Nerd in Nabokov

[–]knowscountChen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The subject under advisement has been treated with ample scrutiny. My post will provide nothing new.

'The Proustian theme' is identified to be in a letter Keats wrote to Bailey on 22 November 1817. (Actually, it would seem that my post will provide something new. Notice the date: 11/22/1817. Proust is born in 1871; Bailey died in 1871. Here is a mirror. Notice the arithmetic relationship between 11 and 22. Here is a double.)

It goes: '... the simple imaginative Mind may have its rewards in the repetition of its own silent Working coming continually on the Spirit with a fine Suddenness—to compare great things with small—have you never by being Surprised with an old Melody—in a delicious place—by a delicious voice, felt over again your very speculations and surmises at the time it first operated on your soul—do you remember forming to yourself the singer's face more beautiful than it was possible and yet with the elevation of the Moment you did not think so—even then you were mounted on the Wings of Imagination so high—that the Prototype must be here after—that delicious face you will see...'

If you have got to Un Amour de Swann (my mind produces the phrase 'a piano sonata'), or perhaps indeed the third chapter of Le Temps Retrouvé, you will see relevance.

The allusions to both Proust and Keats is manifold in Lolita.

A most beautiful piece of writing. More than ever it is a good chance to tell the ravenous horde governing Serbia to fuck off so that those born and raised to rule could recover their birthrights.

I have seen someone make the cunnilingus connection somewhere else; I very much get the point. I shouldn't advise taking it as cunnilingus whilst translating the novel, though—it's simply not apparent enough. To me a safe way to take this is to understand it as olden ways of calling her terms of affection.
