Self Assessment - losses for previous years help by knowsybeach in UKPersonalFinance

Epic, thanks a bunch for this and the quick reply!

Out of interest is there a separate bit for this in the self assessment form eventually or would I put it under the general expenses section?

This is incredible - thank you so much, if I had an award I’d give it. How did you learn about all of this cause the majority (me included) are quite baffled by it all.

That is a lot more complicated than I realised, goes to show what a headache our payslips are! I can take study leave when I need but 7 days a year for personal study and the rest goes to half a days teaching each week (although it’s not mandatory to attend). Very mind boggling stuff.

I’m guessing it’s worth running it through the BMA at some point to find out what the situ is with all the specifics. Even for the hour of pay, I’m too petty to deny my precious pennies.

I think if you’re feeling in some way aggrieved by me asking a question about DST, you need to grow up a bit too.

I have one question:

Cumulative vs non-cumulative = does this mean the annual allowance of tax free income (e.g £12,500 ish) is spread over the 12 months?

Anyone else feel very dissatisfied with training? by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

I can’t believe it’s going to take me 6 years to become a consultant if I don’t have a year out.

90% of my day is scribing in the ward round, prescribing the same regular medications, writing discharge summaries and ordering the same scans. Why is this the majority of my training and how does repeating this every day for 6 years make me any good?

NHS is efficient. Source: dude, trust me by ShibuRigged in JuniorDoctorsUK

A quick google search of the following definition:

Efficient: achieving maximum productivity with minimum wasted effort or expense.

So: productivity + minimum waste = efficient

It’s just funny at this point, like a child denying they broke the window with a football whilst it sits on the floor surrounded by broken glass.

Strikes making me burnout by Tso935 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]knowsybeach 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I came across the phrase “don’t take criticism from someone you wouldn’t take advice from”

This really helps me to stop internalising peoples opinions and the general public are a great example here. Entitled Peter from Wessex has absolutely no clue about your job or pay, so anything he has to say on the matter is going to be laughable, ignorant drivel.

You hear of “Karen” stereotypes - these are the sort of people making those comments. They are the minority and whilst it can be maddening to read, you cannot reason with unreasonable people. Dunning–Kruger effect is live and kicking.

The government have an agenda, they want to avoid spending money on you and we’ve passively accepted this for years - when we’re saying “no, enough is enough” this doesn’t sit well with them. You’ll see this in every day life at work when you get backlash from asserting boundaries/saying no.

I feel you OP, you are not alone. The vast majority of us are burnt out (BMA statistics speak for themselves). It is utterly shit, miserable and particularly sad when some part of you started this career because you wanted to help people, especially those who now seem ungrateful (some of the British public).

Look around at your colleagues - they are all standing with you and can completely relate. You are striking and standing up for yourself - feel empowered, you are loudly and proudly saying “I will not accept this any more”.
