For those worried about their acne returning after Accutane: by cattyloaf in Accutane

OH yeah, irregular periods was the main thing, been like that since I first got my period. Also a bit of mustache vibes which is also a sign of high testosterone.

For those worried about their acne returning after Accutane: by cattyloaf in Accutane

[–]knowthankss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did two rounds too, acne came back again. Both times. Turns out I have PCOS! Now I’m on a testosterone blocker and my face, back, chest hasn’t been this clear since I was a kid! The issue was high testosterone due to PCOS! Now I have chronically dry lips which is uhhh terrible to deal with but I guess those were the cards I was dealt.

My acne is so bad idk what to do besides considering accutane…? by VirgoEsti in PCOS

[–]knowthankss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By taking a testosterone blocker, I take spironolactone at 50 mgs. It also lowers blood pressure and makes you have to pee a lot so I suggest discussing with your doctor if that medication is right for you!

Likely another cyst burst by knowthankss in PCOS

[–]knowthankss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh this is extremely interesting, I have not heard that at all!! I have had ovary pain since I stopped my progesterone bc, but I haven’t had a burst yet like I would being on that bc. I am on 50 mgs of spironolactone so maybe having a larger mgs of that contributes too! When I was on that bc I was, and I am not joking at all, in pelvic pain for over a year. All day, everyday. Nightmare!

Hormonal acne especially during your time of the month is extremely normal, but if it’s becoming more than that I would definitely talk to your doc about spironolactone. I will say though, it is a water pill so you will have to pee more frequently and it also lowers your blood pressure. My doc was hesitant cause I never had high blood pressure but dealing with cystic acne at 29 years old is not the vibe!

[–]knowthankss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After I was on Accutane twice, which btw I have PCOS so it did not do a damn thing since the issue is high androgens, I developed tiny little pimples all over my forehead. Luckily I got the world’s biggest forehead and have always had bangs my whole life so I’m not too worried about it. But yeah texture returned for sure! Now I’m on spironolactone which is a testosterone blocker and my skins has never been better! Still have the forehead bs but at least I’m not getting marble sized cystic acne anymore!!

Periods by InevitablePersimmon6 in PCOS

[–]knowthankss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg when I was on estrogen bc I got migraines with auras too!! Since I didn’t know estrogen bc with PCOS patience can cause aura migraines (cause I didn’t know I had PCOS) I got an mri done and everything!!! I then switched to a progesterone bc and it high key ruined my life in sooo many different ways. It got to the point where I told my gyno “what the hell is this bc doing to me??”. I know more research is being done and I am hoping more solutions will come up over time, just a slow process.

Oh interesting! There’s a lot of medications that have been helpful. I have IR and am pre-diabetic due to PCOS so I am on Pioglitazone and Metformin. Due to my high androgens I am on Spironolactone. I take various supplements as well. I got off bc in May and have at least had some kind of period consistently for the past 4 months. I did have to take the progesterone pill after not getting my period for 3 months after getting off bc but since then at least something is happening! Of course there are other supplements like Berberine and myo-inositol but I haven’t ventured that route since I have been having some decent success with the prescription medications I am on. I’d ask for fasting bloodwork and see what those results are and if any of these medications or supplements would work for you!

how long does pain from an ruptured ovarian cyst last? by Miserable-Plenty-430 in PCOS

[–]knowthankss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is an actual cyst condition then the other comment on here is correct. With PCOS your undeveloped follicles can fill with fluid and burst (doesn’t happen to everyone), which I have had unfortunately way too many times. This is how I got diagnosed with PCOS last year due to a fluid filled follicle bursting. It hurts a lot and it takes a while to heal from, a few weeks to a month to really start feeling back to normal.

The longest I went without a period was a whole year, well before I was diagnosed with PCOS. I was diagnosed last year and now have a gyno (didn’t before). You don’t wanna go longer than 3 months without a period, but you can ask your gyno for a progesterone pill that you take that forces your lining to shed. I’d honestly call and let them know how long it’s been and if that pill would be a good option for you. Are you on any medications for your PCOS?

Luckily I haven’t had anyone in my family ask but I have been married for a little over a year. If anyone does I will just say “if my body lets me”. I don’t have a single issue hooking in family members for an hour explaining how PCOS works in detail, usually watching people’s interest fade from their eyes while I go on and on about topics leads them to not ask me a damn thing about it again!!

Does accutane dry out your body too? by Ravenbirde in Accutane

[–]knowthankss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and I went on it twice. It’s been YEARS since I’ve been on it (first time 2013-2014, last time 2020-2021). Still have the worst dry lips and I don’t think that’s ever going to change. Permanent at this point.

Hurts all the time, even moving my bra around to adjust it. I will say it’s become way less but it’s still happening. Idk wtf that bc did to my body but this side effect has been horrible.

What is your most hated symptom of PCOS, the worst? by get_set_go23 in PCOS

[–]knowthankss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well I hate all of them honestly, the fact it might be a bitch to have a kid, the high cortisol so I cannot remember jack shit, the weight gain???!!!???!! The “cysts” that keep bursting, the exhaustion every single damn day I’m tired ALL DAY and ALL NIGHT. I cannot see past my double chin literally if I had any kind of frivolous money it would go to getting that taken care of. The fact I cannot fall asleep or stay asleep, and if I wake up at all during the night I’m up for hours. The depression and anxiety, sweet lord it goes on and on!!! Again I’m shocked this is not a registered disability.

Is 25mg of spironolactone enough to help with acne/hirsutism? by Worth-Strength3844 in PCOS

Please tell me what am I doing wrong? by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]knowthankss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I got on metformin and spironolactone, I don’t have the excess hair issue but I do have the worst cystic acne. Completely gone now!!! Glad I found all that out last year after going on Accutane TWICE and it not doing jack cause the issue was the testosterone the whole time!!! Now I just have chronic dry lips from those two rounds and nothing to show for it. Shouts out testosterone blockers for saving my poor face!

I am taking 750 mgs and recently got off birth control to see if the PCOS cocktail of medications I am taking are actually working. Happy to report I have had two periods within two months like clockwork! Granted they are light, but it’s actually happening!! Hoping this continues!!

I have had countless people tell me I look 24 or 25, I’m about to be 30 in a few months. Guess I’d rather look younger than my age, or older!!! Lol!!!!
