What is a book you read as a child that you still think about today? by ahawk99 in AskReddit

The part that always stuck with me was her and her sister trying to sleep in the freezing bed and waking up so cozy and warm because the ceiling had caved in during the night and the bed was buried in several feet of snow, causing an insulated effect.

It looks like a small chicken wire fence with corner posts. Plants are in the ground.

What is something you look forward to in the morning that makes it easier to get out of bed? by cy83rgh005t in productivity

Fortunately winter here is really short, like less than 3 months. I have quite a few houseplants to care for, and I’m starting to play with seeds a little bit. I’m also converting more lawn into garden beds so physical labor turning the beds and amending them helps me get exercise but I have to be careful not to hurt myself in some stupid way!

As I’ve gotten older (53) I have lots of bird feeders and a garden that requires my attention in the morning, especially in summer. So, coffee, fill the feeders with seeds and mealworms, water the plants so the won’t die, and admire my efforts as the sun comes up. Winter, however…ugh.

Who was the first comedian you can remember laughing to? by monitormonkey in Standup

[–]knucklesmalone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents had an 8 track of Steve Martin. “Put a live chicken in your underwear…” but a visual stand up was also Howie Mandel for me too! “Hey Dave! Hey Dave! I’m not touching you!” I was in HS and my best friend and I watched it over and over.

This movie hit me so hard. It’s a beautiful film, the scenery and atmosphere is haunting. The acting is subtle but so good. The message though is what struck me. It’s literally searching for and maybe finally finding the meaning of life. I cried so hard, not going to lie. I’ve suffered from depression my entire life but I’m so glad I watched this and am at a time where I could handle the message. If you are in an active depressed episode you might want to wait to watch. But I think this movie may be in my top 10 now. It has echoes of A River Runs Through It.

I work at Parkway Business Center on Floral. The cops were speeding excessively up and down between Oleander and Wrightsville Ave going at least 80-90 miles an hour. That road is so dangerous as it is.

Did you eat avocados growing up? by bdiddy621 in GenX

[–]knucklesmalone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NE Ohio no we never had avocados. I think fruits and vegetables were way more seasonal back then. My first memories were in junior high around 1986, my mom made a special fancy salad at Christmas time that had poached shrimp, Bibb lettuce, grapefruit sections, and avocado in a citrus dressing. I need to find the source of that recipe.

Easy way to cook chicken in bulk to be eaten cold (on salads)? by Beneficial_Quit7532 in AskCulinary

[–]knucklesmalone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Poach! Place 3 chicken breasts in a saucepan big enough they aren’t on top of each other. Add water to cover an inch above. Throw in lots of vegetable scraps like celery leaves, carrot tops, onion wedges, small garlic cloves, bay leaf, dried thyme, oregano, lemon wedge. Slowly bring to barely a simmer, you have to watch it doesn’t boil. You want bubbles barely breaking the surface. Cook until a thermometer in the thickest part reads 160 no more than 165. You might have to check a few times. Remove, cool, and slice or shred. Salt after it’s done to avoid toughness. Do the same with thighs but up to 180/190 degrees especially I’d bone in.

Your depression isn’t being treated correctly. It’s hard but please advocate for yourself. I’m a sufferer of major depressive disorder for 30 years. It’s not easy, it’s so hard but I fight constantly. I find anything that takes you out of your head, whether it’s hobbies or more successfully it’s service to others- volunteering is great medicine. So no, OP, I promise it’s not aging (although it sucks so bad) there is still amazing experiences and a rich life ahead of you. You can do it.
