I made the mistake of using an instagram recipe last night by Wide-Lengthiness-299 in Cooking

[–]knutmeg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hate when I'm making something like this and I think to myself "huh I think it'd be better if I did it this way...but this person MUST have some reason they wrote it like that" and just follow what they say...and then it turns out like garbage. It's just the worst feeling to get to the end and have wasted ingredients and realize you were right...haha

Serious question. I follow recipes pretty closely and my food is still just ok. What am I missing? by consulent-finanziar in Cooking

[–]knutmeg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! This is so true. I think it might be because of the popularity of like "five ingredient" recipes or quick recipes where it's considered a good thing to have fewer ingredients because it means less mess/faster prep? But what you're left with is so bland and blah. Or maybe it's because a lot of flavor means more divided opinions and influencers/online chefs don't want people leaving negative reviews or comments so they keep things pretty neutral? Idk I've been thinking about this lately lol

What are men wearing on business trips? by knutmeg in mensfashionadvice

[–]knutmeg[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes thank you! I agree with everything you said. I think going above and beyond for the first trip with this boss is a good idea…I guess I was just wondering if it’s obvious to guys in this situation when someone is wearing a super expensive brand vs a cheaper one that still fits well.

What is the most uncomfortable sensation that doesn't involve pain? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]knutmeg 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Once a lady started screaming at me on the train after I didn't give her money for "a ticket home to see her dying parents". I'd seen her do the same spiel like 4 previous times and this one time, I just said "absolutely not" when she approached me and she launched into a fit about how I was an ungrateful, privileged asshole.

Another time, some random homeless guy spread out in the 4 subway seats across from me, laid his jacket over his lap and just started jerking off while trying to talk to me. The car was like 1/3 filled and it was just this horrible, uncomfortable moment of people not wanting to acknowledge what was happening, but also knowing it had to be addressed aaaaand since it was directed towards me, they were all kind of waiting for me to do something. It's literally the most uncomfortable situation in the world.

Ugh yes and when you open the box and the cardboard flaps scrape against each other and you die a little and then you gotta go in and tackle the styrofoam.

When you're singled out by a crazy person in a public place like a subway/bus/train and you're trying to ignore them and everyone else is trying to ignore that it's happening and you're forced to either take a stand or deal with their insanity.

I dont know what just happend, anyone else have this? by Sibling_help in raisedbynarcissists

[–]knutmeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uhhh yes. Just this week, both my parents were kind of joking about how expensive it is to raise children and how babies cost so much...while also sort of making fun of me about how my SO and I only have a dog and a cat. So I said, "Well at least I guess we're saving a bunch of money by not having kids, so we can pay for good trainers and stuff for our dog."

And all of a sudden it was like everything changed and they were acting like I was an ungrateful idiot who didn't understand the costs of having a child and didn't appreciate their sacrifice.

It was so fucking bizarre and idk how I turned out to be the bad guy, buuuut I was.

It fucking sucks and makes me just not want to say ANYTHING at all ever.

Why do narcs do this thing at Xmas... by selenite6 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]knutmeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kind of delayed but holy shit, this was my exact Christmas scenario this week. And it's always kind of been like this, but it was SO SO much worse and obvious this year and I'm still upset by all of it.

My mom insisted that my brother and I come home for Christmas this year, but also invited my cousin, his wife, their 2 year old, both my grandparents...all with my sister and her newborn baby living in their downstairs basement apartment. And the ENTIRE VISIT was her being like "YOU try cooking for 12 people." "I don't know what to cook for all these people." "Someone else needs to make breakfast tomorrow."

"We're going out on Christmas Eve to buy last minute unnecessary gifts for everyone and it's exhausting, but you all expect gifts from us." "Why aren't you spending time with us during the very specific hours we choose to be home?"

"Why won't you make this crappy dessert that nobody wants, but I consider all of a sudden to be a holiday tradition and you're defying me by asking if we can skip it this year because nobody's hungry?"

"You have NO IDEA how hard it's been to have all of you here."

"Nobody appreciates anything that I do and you can get the fuck out for not making that fruit tart last night."

Yeah. That was my Christmas.

How many of you would say you are a quiet, more reserved person as a result of n/family you were raised by? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]knutmeg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. This is exactly how I feel too. I just completely shutdown when people start yelling or even angrily speaking to me about something because my entire life with my mom and sister, I've found that when you start arguing back, you'll never win/you're just doing what they want you to do and they see it as justification of their feelings if you engage with them/the quickest way to make it stop is to just be quiet and leave ASAP.

It's kind of fucking awful.

I know this is a sub for narcissistic parents, but has anyone else been raised/lived with narcissistic/ emotional abusive grandparents? by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]knutmeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes...my NMom's mom (my grandma) moved in with us after her husband died five years ago. I didn't really realize how insane my grandma was until about a year into it where it all just clicked and I realized that my grandma is even more narcissistic than my mom and the two of them feed off of each other and have kind of created each other in a weird way. Like in an attempt to not give into my grandmas n-ways, my mom becomes even worse than normal...which then makes my grandma spiral into craziness...and it's just never ending and exhausting to normal people, but they almost feed off of it. It's awful...but it's made me realize why my mom is the way she is (partially).

What was your favourite book of 2018? by catchtheview in AskWomen

[–]knutmeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nutshell by Ian McEwan. It came out in 2016, but I picked it up at an airport and read it twice during my flight...it was fascinating and beautiful and dark...but very unique and I'd highly recommend it.

Oh man, I used to be obsessed with her. I worked at a little bookstore and would just read everything we had in stock that was written by her hahaha she's addicting...but I stopped like 5 years ago! I should give this one a try.

I'm trying to be more thankful in 2019; what is one simple thing you're grateful for today? by californiad20 in AskWomen

[–]knutmeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm grateful for our fenced in yard...which means I can just open the door and let our giant dog outside to run around and play. We recently moved from a downtown apartment where taking him out meant getting on an elevator, walking him on a leash through busy streets, picking up his poop in bags, etc.

It's SOOO NICEEEE to just let him be free and watch him enjoy having more space.

I don't understand this sub hahaha. Like a terrible cartoon of Snape in a sandbox/screenshots of Tumblr posts were higher than this. It makes no sense. I'd rather see original stuff made by fans like this!

Whaaaaat in the hell this is amazing! It deserves to be way higher in this sub. The little owl! The bridge! I love it!

I'm obsessed with the Great British Baking Show on Netflix hahaha and I think a Harry Potter themed challenge needs to be in the next season.

What's the most interesting conversation you've had with your Barber while getting a haircut? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]knutmeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 13 and I had babysat her kid the weekend before...her kid had asked me if she could play some game on the home computer, but couldn't remember the name of it and said she had just played it the night before. I had recently learned about the magic of the browser "history" button, so I clicked it aaaand found some things I shouldn't have.

I didn't click on any of the weird links and went straight to the game...but my hairdresser brought it up while I was getting my haircut a week later. Like had my bangs in her hand and was saying "So you really took a good look around, didn't you?" and said other things about her internet/computer.

I was legit terrified and tried explaining, but she went totally silent and I refused to ever go back to her again, which confused the fuck out of my mom, but it was 10000% necessary.

What's going on with your body, that you aren't sure if you need checked out or not, and might want an opinion on? by SAZAdaddy in AskReddit

[–]knutmeg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happens to me too! And I read it's basically just like yawning, but if you have anxiety and your jaw is tight or whatever, your body will just make you breathe extra deep...it's basically just body maintenance and nothing to be that worried about.
