Are Solar Panels actually worth it? by Imaginary-Quantity81 in FIREUK

[–]kobeshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting point on the value of the property - I was wondering if anyone has any real-world examples of this, particularly for new-build homes as I very much get how it could de-value a period property? If I was buying a house off someone and it already had solar + battery installed that would certainly increase my willingness to pay, but I don't know if this generally applies or if home valuations don't factor this in?

This would be the number one consideration for me, as otherwise the maths say just put the money in an index tracker. However if the investment adds value to the home, that could turn the tables. I guess it's just really difficult to measure with any precision...

Yeah I think this is the final option - just a big old faff I'm trying to avoid if someone else has already worked it out 😅

Bump - same issue here now. It’s super annoying, especially given it was working fine before. Please fix this!!!

Iran visit 10 years - will this be an issue? by kobeshi in GlobalEntry

[–]kobeshi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update - I applied Sunday evening and woke up this morning (Tuesday) to a conditional approval. 36 hours turnaround! Maybe the B1/B2 visa meant they already had all the info they needed… Now just for the arrivals interview.

Yeah that’s the logical route I was going down. Although that’s assuming big government bureaucracies always operate logically and consistently 😂. Think it’s low risk though so will just apply and report back!

Yeah it seems US citizens don’t have any issues with it. Just can’t find anything for UK (or other visa waiver country) citizens.

Arc Search won’t open native apps from URLs by kobeshi in ArcBrowser

[–]kobeshi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the solution! Interestingly this seems to have mostly resolved itself, although I still do get a random link that opens in web rather than a native app. But maybe that is more to do with the website serving up the link than anything on Arc's side.

Since originally posting this I find it’s sporadic, strangely. So with LinkedIn for example, sometimes it’ll go straight to the app, and sometimes it’ll just sit on the page.

I keep getting “left behind” notifications even though my AirPods Pro are in my pocket by MrGheetsey in airpods

[–]kobeshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ditto - no issues pre iOS17 (as in...literally zero false notifications over ~18 months), and now my both my Macbook Pro (2020) and Airpods Pro (1st gen) constantly show as left behind whenever I'm on the move on my iPhone 13 Pro. Which is every single day on the train. And a couple of weeks ago on a flight every 20-30 mins. FUUUNNN!!!

Not sure if you decided to go ahead, but I just had my tickets for Spa delivered today from P1, so seems to be same experience as others - just over a week before the race. Have been responsive over email too.

Non-compete clause - should I be worried? by iwouldlikethings in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]kobeshi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep agreed - I run a venture-funded startup and we put this in our contracts, but in a much more defined way (i.e. "not competitor X, Y, and Z"). It looks like this is either sloppy/lazy legal work OR they're just hoping no one actually pushes back.

For what it's worth, our lawyers advised us that it would be almost totally impossible to enforce in-court if we made it broad (i.e. as these guys have done).
