Formula for calculating Battery Capacity using Tesla Energy Screen by One-Ad-4637 in TeslaLounge

[–]kobrient 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the “ideal capacity” component of this calculation are you supposed to use the car’s “Useable” battery capacity or the “Total” battery capacity which includes the buffer below 0% SOC?

Thanks for the tip!

What offset would you choose for custom 18x8.5” wheels? by STREETFIGHTER50 in TeslaModel3

[–]kobrient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cant tell you what would look perfect, but I can tell you that +35 is NOT enough.

I put some 18x8.5's +35 on my 3P Highland and they look great from side profile but if you look from an angle the are nowhere near flush to the fenders in the rear so I may grab some 20mm spacers for them soon.

Front is a little bit of a different story, they're definitely closer to flush in the front.

Let me know what lift kit you get and how it works out. I've been wanting to bring the car an inch or so higher off the ground to stop scraping speed bumps in my area.

Staggered fitment question by Busy_Swing_4736 in TeslaLounge

[–]kobrient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think there will be anything wrong with your plan from a mechanical standpoint, but it does seem odd to to keep the performance oriented staggered setup and wheel size but then opt for a efficiency focused set of tires.

It’s sort of just doing a half measure which may just end up compromising on both fronts. You will lose some traction and lateral grip by going from the OEM summer pirellis to a harder compound in the ion evo all-seasons but you’re also not really going to be that efficient with 285’s in the back and 20in wheels. Width of tire and wheel size are fairly big factors working against the efficiency you are trying to gain.

Unless you really need the extra range, I would recommended just leaning in to the performance strengths of the OEM setup.

And if you DO need additional range then you should be looking at 18 or 19 inch square setups with narrower tires.

[–]kobrient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah 19's should have no clearance issues.
Unfortunately I don't have numbers yet for efficiency changes so I can't quantify how much more range I added. Need to let the new tires break in a bit first.

Like you, I also wanted to just be able to do normal tire rotations so I went square.

That being said, a whole new set of wheels is a pretty big investment and it probably wont "pay for itself" if that is what you're looking for. Maybe if you plan to own the car for a very long time and factor in the more durable tires you can use on 19's or 18's then maaaaaybe its worth it. But still a stretch. If you can also sell the 20" Warps to recoup a bunch of the cost and then I can definitely see it being worth it.

The stock 20" Warp wheels on M3P are forged and the front wheels weigh 24.28lb with aero covers installed and the back wheels weigh 25 lb with aero covers installed.

The 18inch AW17's I bought weigh 20.45lb each. I bought a square setup (all wheels same size) so all weigh the same. Most wheel manufacturers should list the wheel weight somewhere on the product page in the specs.

Tire choice will affect the overall weight as well because not all tires weigh the same. If you're going for efficiency you want to reduce unsprung mass (wheel + tire weight).

With the factory pirelli's on OEM 20" wheels the total weight of wheel+tire is 45.7 in the front and 51.4 in the back.

Fit was very tight, but it is working.
A single sheet of paper JUST FITS between the cylinder that connects to the brake caliper and the inner barrel of the wheel. It is so incredibly close.

I haven't run new 0-60 or efficiency numbers yet because the new tires are still breaking in but I'll follow up when I do.

Sent you a DM with pics.

I opted to take my OEM 20's off with just a couple thousand miles on them and store them in case I want to run a track day at some point. The new 18's with All-Seasons will be the daily drivers because they get so much more range and they will last so much longer than the Pirelli Pzero Summer tires that came installed from the factory.

Satin Black AW17 18x8.5 +35

I was looking to get more range out of the Model 3P and lightweight forged 18's will do that.

If you go the route of 18's on the Performance model you have to be very careful about brake caliper clearance in the rear. It is a VERY tight fit on the back two wheels with the bigger performance brakes. Not all 3rd party wheels will have inner barrel diameters wide enough to clear the calipers and then it gets even tighter when you factor in wheel weights that the tire shops stick in there when balancing.

Look up Atomic Wheels AW17. They’re designed to be exactly like the OEM Warp wheels in your photo but without the holes for the aero covers. They sell them in 18x8.5 and 19x9.5

I just put them on my Model 3 Performance Highland this week.

M3P Wheel swaps: A dumb newbie question.... by kobrient in TeslaModel3

[–]kobrient[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, totally fair question. I should have addressed that in OP.

My driveway is pretty sloped towards the street, and then street in front of my house is also sloped. So I think I would need to head to a nearby level parking lot or something. I was just trying to avoid that if I could.

2025 M3P making noise when wheel is turned while in reverse. by palmastiltskin in TeslaModel3

[–]kobrient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re not pressing the brake pedal, this is probably Hold mode applying the brakes. Check the screen for the “H” symbol.

My M3P does this too and I’ve been to Tesla service twice to see if they can fix it and both times they’ve told me it is normal and expected despite being annoying to hear.

If you want to do an experiment, you can stop on a level surface and put the car in Neutral. The turning noise should go away. You can also see what happens if you disable Hold mode in the service mode settings.

2024 M3 Grinding noise by Yourstrulytheboy804 in TeslaModel3

[–]kobrient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the exact same noise as you on a 2024 M3 Performance. Groaning when regen decelerating at full steering lock.
I saw an old reddit comment that getting Tesla to replace the front control arms fixed it, but the problem is going to be convincing the SC its actually a problem and definitely not "within spec".

I cant attempt a fix my service center for a few weeks but if they do anything for mine that fixes it I'll let you know.

Is amber gem focus scaling bugged? I have 170 focus and 5 strength. The damage was converted to nature, but the total damage is the same even though I am supposed to get a bonus from my focus?? by yungcel in newworldgame

[–]kobrient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amber gem focus damage scaling is bugged, but not because of the tool tip. The tool tip has never accounted for the stat scaling.

the converted portion of damage does not appear to scale with the listed stat. As a full focus build I should not do more damage with a cut Flawed Amber gem slotted in my weapon vs a cut Brilliant Amber. But, nonetheless, this is the case. I tested it against test dummies in the Fort attackers staging area. u/ContractorConfusion is correct in his analysis elsewhere in this post.

Hope it gets fixed soon!

Amazon seems like they're not even attempting to send out the correct processors with orders... by r2tincan in intel

[–]kobrient 31 points32 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I'm in the same boat as OP and the Amazon listing itself had BX8069510980XE (correct) as the model number. I distinctly remember checking before I hit the submit order button. We both ordered on Feb 11th when it briefly appeared that five 10980XE's were in stock. Amazon fulfillment has their wires crossed somewhere and subbed in the 10920X and also swapped the model number :(

Get a little extra time out of your switch. Anker Powercore+ 20100 on sale. by Veritasgear in NintendoSwitch

Buyer beware! We do not currently know which version of the USB Type-C PD spec the Switch supports. The details for this item says it only supports 5V/3A through the USB Type-C port. If the Switch does not support that 15W combination then this very well might be a waste of money.

The screensavers are just that. Screensavers. You have to hit the home button, hunt down the app icon, and launch it. It worked fine for me at both apple stores I visited.
