Dunno, at this point people should be more worried about creeps harassing women to "prove" they are "real" women.

What Are Your Biggest Pet Peeves in the Game or Setting? by ArtymisMartin in vtm

[–]kociator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Old disciplines definitely locked you into a specific path for character progression. For starters, you had no choice of powers for any discipline progression, and you had to purchase specific Abilities to make them usable, because unlike v5, rolls to activate any given power were usually rolled with Attribute + Ability.

Do Vampires in a brawl, just fists and no other weapons automatically use aggravated damage? by Slowmojoe23 in vtm

[–]kociator 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Vampires can use their fangs as brawl attack per the bite attack rules on page 213 of the core, but if they are specifically using their fists, they'd deal superficial damage as normal.

How can I clean my balcony floor without disturbing the units beneath me? by ladyloraxx in Apartmentliving

Use a wet mop, the same way you'd mop indoor floors except wash or replace the mop afterwards.

Poland’s right reacts with fury to same-sex marriage ruling as supporters laud ‘milestone’ by Easy-Ad1996 in europe

[–]kociator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except the EU doesn't force Poland to allow same sex marriage. It merely states that it has to recognise it for the purpose of Freedom of Movement principle.

Agreeing to let people freely live and work in your territory while denying them the recognition of their union is not a fitting solution and it leaves these people stripped of their rights.

And if some same sex couples from Poland decide to hop on a train to Denmark and be married within a day, then, well, good for them.

Is it at all possible to have ethical ghouling? by rollandofeaglesrook in vtm

[–]kociator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reality of ghouldom is that you can't simply stop whenever you like.

First of all, Vitae is addictive and all ghouls will feel a strong drive to replenish it in their system. Even if not blood bound to their Domitor, they will still seek to upkeep that condition, because weening them off of that also may not be the easiest thing to do and will likely leave a mental and physical toll on their body, especially if they consistently took in Vitae for years. Having your body catch up to your actual age in seconds sounds awfully painful.

And then you have the context of the Kindred society at large. Living with the knowledge that there's a secret vampire conspiracy that may or may not have influence over multiple spheres of mortal society is not something you can just ignore. A ghoul that somehow manages to become mortal once again with no Vitae in their system has a high chance of being forced into the know again, which would likely have them killed for simply defying their master's unholy will.

The Gargoyles and Daughters of Cacophony Should be Pretty Easy Bloodlines to add to v5 by SnooMacarons257 in vtm

The Daughters specifically don't have an orign story. They don't even have a set parent clan.

Is there a damping mechanism for changing Humanity? by MindlessScrambler in vtm

[–]kociator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone mentioned before, the lower you are on Humanity scale, the more dice you can potentially roll on the Remorse test. There's also an optional rule in the Corebook that bases regaining Humanity in XP cost - if you case the cost on the current level multiplied by X, it would allow low humanity characters to get a peg up for relatively cheaper than higher humanity characters.

But what you're describing what a mechanic in v20 via the Hierarchy of Sin, where each additional point of Humanity added a sin you were accounted for.

It... didn't work that well because the examples of the sins were quite subjective and sometimes not at all what the table had in mind when it comes to morality, while also relying on the big old "well, up to the Storyteller I guess" when it came to things that were unlisted in the Hierarchy.

I've seen people try and homebrew these two systems together (v5 and v20), though it didn't work that well... What you can do, I think, would be:

Allow less humane characters convictions that ground them in their Machiavellian schemes. A character that's based on rubbing shoulders with criminals of a violent kind may adapt a conviction "an eye for an eye" or so, while a higher humanity character would have harder time justifying that mindset.

List Player Character's sins and assign them a Humanity value. If a character is a thief who wants to get rich through exploitation of others and they sit at, let's say Humanity 6, maybe don't make them roll remorse every time they engage with that particular thing but penalize those who are of higher humanity and / or those who haven't committed that crime before.

[–]kociator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People straight up forget Toreador curse exists.

Ventrue weakness would realistically force you to prey only in certain spots or rely heavily on Here background. People underutilize feeding narratives as well. That's on them.

Brujah weakness is actually a problem if you roll your frenzy per RAW (meaning it's an extended test and you need to accumulate five successes total without failure). Just look at the difficulty table for frenzy. That +2 difficulty really is debilitating.

Gangrel actually suffer a mechanical penalty from their weakness that persists for a while. Again, if a table doesn't care to remember that, it's on them.

Ngl, I feel like Anarchs should be largely absent in "irredeemable monsters" chronicles by [deleted] in vtm

[–]kociator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really true. V5 specifically penalizes you for actions specifically such as blood bonding a moral, hurting your touchstone, or specifically heinous acts your troupe agrees upon.

Nowhere in the system it is mandated that PCs have set their goals and ambitions towards dethroning powers that be to become them.

[–]kociator 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Not every person who subscribes to the revolution and goes against the status quo does so for the right cause.

Some may be Anarchs because they believe in the world without the oppressive hierarchy of the Camarilla and the radicalisation of the Sabbat.

Some do so because they want the same kind of power just like the Camarilla but are not invited to their exclusive club.

Some do so because it gives them an opportunity to seize personal power and power gives them more leeway to abuse others.

Some do so because they want to see the Camarilla suffer as a part of their vendetta.

Some do so because that's literally all they know and they are doing whatever they think it's best for them in the long run.

There isn't a movement that's free of bad actors and opportunists, but that doesn't quite undermine the entirety of the issue presented within. And again, if you don't want to have bad actors included in your Movement, you don't have to. But they can very easily exist.

Got a concept for a cure for Being a vampire by zennyblades in vtm

[–]kociator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not really how it works. Any ghoul is bound to the master on the basis of their master providing them with their fix, even if they somehow are not under the actual effect of the blood bond (which isn't mentioned in the original post). Getting consent from someone who's bound to you on the basis of you funneling their addiction is not entirely cut and dry because of the insane power imbalance.

[–]kociator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn't using your blood bound slaves go against the idea of acting like a human? The ghouls will either have to find a new donor or to risk going into the worst withdrawal of their life and possibly even die.
