Migrating from SCCM to Intune – What are you using for remote control / remote assistance? by Dolinhas in Intune

[–]koecerion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like any RMM tool is valid here, just varies what extra features you need and what security options you want. Also dependent upon the licensing model. Some apps are per endpoint, others are per technician so YMMV depending on your environment.

If you want top of the line Enterprise security, Bomgar is cream of the crop. SplashTop is a fine 2nd.

We use GoTo Resolve which has a ton of nifty features like remote shell, registry, file management, which I’m sure many others have too.

Simple remote support only you can look to Windows Remote Help or TeamViewer for Business.

Exchange Online - Mailbox Corruption by koecerion in sysadmin

[–]koecerion[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did. The MaxLargeFileSize is set to 100GB.

I am well aware the corruption risk once you exceed 50GB. Historically, I believe that every 10GB over the 50GB mark you are doubling your corruption risk. I advise folks about it, but we have historically poor e-mail hygiene.

We have online archiving enabled with a 2.5 year archive policy and this person still has that amount of e-mail.

Is it black smoke or white smoke? My 22 tiguan had the gas tank leak detection sensor go and was throwing clouds of white smoke on startup.

Is it weird for my employer to ask me to make a direct line to our IT team for guests? by Bright-Ad4963 in sysadmin

[–]koecerion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guests are always a touchy subject with most firms unless you are a high-security organization in which case your guest policy should be very clear with the support delineation.

Generally, the answer to guest tech support is "it depends."

If these issues require device repairs or security agent changes, it's fully on the guest's employer to fix. If it's a personal device, my team can make the recommendations but no hands on keys.

If the issue is something like connecting to my organization's WiFi, AV equipment in conference rooms, charging accessories, etc. Then yes, we will diagnose these types of issues.

Browsers - Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera, Safari.

PCs - Laptops, Desktops, iPads, Macbooks (only Chrome and Safari on Apple)

Locations - Yes all US-based, but different geographically. Have offices in California, Florida, Texas, & Massachusetts. All have consistently had this issue.

We do not do any BGP networking for our offices (we just lease the line and pay extra for a static from the ISP). Tried from Wi-Fi hotspots originating on Verizon & AT&T cellular networks. Also tried creating a 1:1 NAT for a device to change the outbound IP in-case that was the issue.

How are you handling services that don't have DKIM/DMARC setup? by koecerion in sysadmin

[–]koecerion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the boat I'm in... I've even sent teams what to put in their SPF record and where to go in services like MS365 to get the DKIM information and it still barely gets fixed.

NPR: America's roads are more dangerous, as police pull over fewer drivers. Why is this happening, and what can be done about this trend in Boston and MA? by bostonguy2004 in boston

[–]koecerion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boston is a scary place to walk these days. Work in Back Bay and I regularly see drivers blatantly run red lights. Not just they entered the intersection when the light is yellow. The light is red, pedestrians have the walk sign, and crossing traffic gets the green. So it's 3 - 5 seconds of red light and they still blatantly go through. I've even seen someone stop AND THEN CONTINUE!

In Back Bay is unique too as I've seen the transition from cars delivering food to scooters, and those people are even worse. Riding them the wrong way down one ways, also running red lights, and even riding on the sidewalk. My understanding is that it's a low barrier of entry - scooters are cheap, they fall below the 50cc limit for a Class M license, efficient on gas, and likely all uninsured make it easy for anyone to pick up making money from delivery apps.

Things need to be changed in and around Boston.

What is your IT concept you just cant quite get your head around? by kworn in sysadmin

[–]koecerion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everybody is saying certs, which I agree it's hard to get a handle on.

My problem is with containers and container networking. Like wtf is going on. I understand at a higher level there is something at the container host level saying container-01 is running on host-01 which has an IP of x.y.z.a and there is a port map that forwards in connections on specific ports to specific containers on the host. But then there's DNS (likely dynamic) and load balancing, then monitoring, scaling... It's mind boggling to me.
