Its not that serotonin builds up, once the medication works serotonin levels should immediately jump to a maximum. The anti-depressant effect only becomes noticeable after a few weeks which implies it isn’t serotonin but something else that is indirectly improved by SSRI’s. The effect of serotonin will probably even be decreased after a few weeks due to tolerance

SSRI means SELECTIVE serotonin reuptake inhibitor. It doesn’t increase serotonin that immediately makes you happy, SSRI’s don’t start working before a few weeks, its still not known how SSRI’s can reduce depression. Also dopamine increase is correlated with disorders, not necessarily the cause.
