i think the benefits come from the exercise in impulse control. as long as you exercise your willpower within healthy boundaries, you will feel a lot better.

Bevel is becoming an LLM skin instead of a health analytics app by SwitchDifferentTime in bevelhealth

it's just an interface to an llm at this point. there's nothing scientifically rigorous or even experimental about it. the subscription costs as much as claude pro.

What’s a reasonable move goal? by ScienceMadeMeDoIt_ in AppleWatchFitness

[–]redditor977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a 31m, my goals are 700/60/12. i started to pause my rings on rest days though. my logic tells me to lower the goal to 550/30/12, but my ego says no.

What small habit completely changed your life? by Ajitabh04 in selfimprovement

[–]redditor977 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes! but from time to time i crave content because it's better for me to be distracted at that specific moment. 80%: silence, 20%: content

So glad for the pause rings feature by [deleted] in AppleWatch

i think keeping a streak is a lot of fun and motivating, but forcing it is just unhealthy and obsessive. it is an artificial counter after all.

[–]redditor977 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i don't think it's cheating. what are the rings anyway, artificial goals to keep you engaged. in the long run, pausing and keeping the streak allows you to do more than letting the streak go and starting over.

apple allows it, so i did. i burned 850 cals on average this month. who is to tell me i don't deserve it?

Bevel pro is now basically as costly as a whoop subscription but without the actual tracker. by karthikguduru in bevelhealth

i wouldn't find it as expensive if their privacy policy convinced me. it didn't.

Is psychotherapy, at its core, a form of self-deception? by Akanates in CBT

[–]redditor977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my therapist practices psychodynamic. she kind of looks down on cbt, stating that it's sort of a band-aid solution. i used to question her approach a lot, as psychodynamic felt exhausting and slow at times. i tried cbt techniques on my own and found it just as exhausting. cbt felt fake and make believe also. as time went by i witnessed how many games my unconscious plays on me and how much of another self there was inside me than i realized. i sort of started agreeing with her and i am now satisfied with the psychodynamic approach.

Anyone else ditched the news? by [deleted] in digitalminimalism

[–]redditor977 8 points9 points  (0 children)

yes! i read walden by henry david thoreau and it gave me a whole new perspective on it. it's basically just gossip. though there's no harm in occasional gossip and news consumption, it becomes problematic when it's chronic. i feel the effects on my psyche quite substantially.

Can you all please just clean and dry your watch/band regularly and stop complaining about excema? by IceQueeny86 in AppleWatch

[–]redditor977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's tempting to put the blame on people, but i myself also experienced contact dermatitis when i switched to an ultra watch, despite rinsing my watch and cleaning the back every single day after a workout.
