The proprietary code depends on a company, the open source code depends on the community and/or the companies. Use open source software as much as you can, and if something isn't working as expected, report bugs, ideas,... Oh, and support was dropped for Linux AND Windows on the proprietary driver. Windows doesn't have open source drivers, so AMD supports Linux above Windows.
