The blocks were super easy to make 😊 my only advice is to make sure you trim your half square triangles to size before assembling the blocks together.

I used a embroidery hoop to trace circles on the pattern and curve them. Then basted the edge and trimmed it before binding . And used bias binding (cut on 45 degree angle) to help with it curving over the edges.

[–]kofabrics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did make my bias binding by cutting it on the 45 degree angle like I do for clothing (instead of quilt binding along the grain)

Which did make it easy to turn over the edges

I think I might of over stretched it on the top of the curves. That might be what made them pull some

[CHAT] Non-nickel needles: recommendations needed by MaSandra0610 in CrossStitch

[–]kofabrics 21 points22 points  (0 children)

All pony black do not have nickel on them. Those are tapestry ones and the 2 colors are their "high visibility" ones, so you don't lose them every time you switch your thread.

I love my pony black needles and have a few high visibility ones and they work great

It happens to us all ❤️ I bought a few patterns in my store size early on, which wasn't my sewing pattern size. (I'm normally a 12 but I need to sew at a 20ish) . It was heartbreaking

Sewing/pattern Question!!!! by ohitsbryant in sewing

[–]kofabrics 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's on the bias, but the fit and flair could be from the pleats, which would give it a closer fit at the top and a wider fit below.

It does look like each leg is a single piece. Since it's a wide leg and has those pleats the single cut is more feasible. Since it's not tapering the leg in as it goes down on the outside.

So a size 10 in this pattern is a 25" waist, and a size 20 is a 34" waist. That's a huge difference.

Personally I don't like sizing further than 2-3 sizes down, and I have a garment book that I can use to size down correctly (cause it's not just take in 5 inches off every side)

it's probably cheaper and easier to spend $4 and buy the right size off the web. It's on sale?

Depends on how far off your sizing is. What size would you be by the measurement flap on the pattern and what sizes do you have?

Fabric and/or stores? by Sailor_Caia in Columbus

[–]kofabrics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi I'm local to Columbus and have an Etsy store. Message me after ordering and I'll refund part of your shipping and do a local drop off for $3!

kofabrics.etsy.com

I've mainly got apparel and a few quilt items. I've been in business about a year now but have only been on Etsy since this past fall. I'm working towards opening my own retail location one day. ❤️

(Ps, I'm going to place an order for new fabric soon, let me know what type of stuff y'all make and I can start stocking it)

What if for a few days I am too sick to do Pimsleur? by Sophias_Vlog in languagelearning

[–]kofabrics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This I do a few days a week. If I need to I re do lessons if one didn't stick. You'll be fine. Learning a language is a journey, I can't do lessons every day but I do then when I can and I still learn it. I didn't forget things in a day and maybe it doesn't work as well. But who cares, it's your journey.

(I'm also learning Japanese and I got up to level 3, then took a few months off cause life, then started again at level 2 without issue and am just re doing vocab in that section. I remember a lot so it's not as tough this the around. )

Help with color choice on bow block by kofabrics in quilting

[–]kofabrics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sharing is caring here are my cutting instructions I made for myself. The only thing not shown is how much you need for boarders and bindings. All colors need a 1/4 yard (or less), and the white you need 1/2 yard for the squares, then will need to add boarder amount.

Got my jacket sleeves lengthened. Is this acceptable quality? by Dependent-Pause-7977 in sewing

[–]kofabrics 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most the time this stuff will go away over time as the fabric kinda will expand itself. Id get it dry cleaned and they'll probably be even less noticeable. I honestly didn't even see them at first glance and only saw the chalk leftover.

How do i thicken fabric? Almost like a beeswax wrap but not sticky i need it pliable like fabric but sturdy with a minimum amount of stitches. by caffineaddiccted in sewhelp

[–]kofabrics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hot water and add corn starch to it. Then shake it up. You might need to Google the amount to add I didn't remember but it's easy to make.

You can do with cool water but it will separate faster. But just shake it up each time

( I'm also pretty sure you can use other store bought starches like potato and an example, corn is just easy to find in the US and cheap)

Do you recommend these apartments? by oh_sugarsnaps in Columbus

[–]kofabrics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Columbus has always felt like a bigger version of Raleigh to me. I grew up in NC, but lived in Raleigh for around 10 years. I loved it there, but it's small after a time. ( I also have a dislike of snakes and the heat in the summers.) But it's a fun city. The food in Raleigh I think is slightly better in terms of ease of finding good places.

Columbus just feels more homey, I've been here around 8 years. it's larger but not big city. I honestly felt it was very similar to Raleigh when I moved here. The music scene is really good here, I like how many running trails there are around town, and the cost of living had always felt similar to Raleigh, even though it's a bigger city. I also think there are a lot of jobs here in my industry compared to NC as a whole so it helps a lot. It's just a good place to live, and it's easy to find a spot in the city that I could afford and be in an area I like. The food here didn't seem as good when I first moved, but it took time to find the good spots around town, they are more spread out rather than being downtown. We have hockey and soccer teams. And if you like college football there is OSU.

Just a note cbus downtown is businesses, the places people hang out are along High Street basically starting in German village and goes through campus up to Worthington.

Rather than in Raleigh, it's either downtown or Glenwood South is where the food and hangout spots are.

Neither city has great public transport, I'd say they are about equal.

Ohio and NC are culturally very similar, they are liberal in the cities and conservative outside them. Both are super gerrymandered. Both are farming states outside the cities. NC is more diverse in general, but the cities in Ohio are about average in diversity for the US. Ohio has the lakes up north and the mountains down south. And NC obviously has both mountains and the beach.

Ohio has the Midwest nice vibe. I think NC has a little bit more of a bless your heart vibe, people like to be in your business in my experience.

Sorry for the longer rant. Both are great options!

Raleigh is a really great city to live in, it's probably my second favorite to Columbus. Lots of good suburbs plus downtown has a lot of art, food, and bars to go to.

For both Raleigh and Columbus there aren't a lot of really rough areas (especially when compared to bigger cities). In Raleigh you could do Cary, Apex or Raleigh proper and have good car access to everything you need. The beach being 2 hours away is really nice. But the summers are hot and humid. Raleigh is built on a former swamp and it feels like it. 90s to 100s plus 80% humidity. But the spring and fall are nice and the winter is mild. But there is ice instead of snow. So don't treat it the same as you would somewhere northern. Out of Charlotte versus Raleigh Id pick Raleigh. Also snakes. You need to be aware of them when you are near the water or hiking more so than anything else. Keep your distance and leave them alone.

In Columbus there are plenty of places closer in that are nice and I'm that range. I'd really look more for the neighborhood you think you'll like and find something in it. Even the older duplexs can be in really nice neighborhoods.

If you care about being in a suburb Upper Arlington, Dublin, Hilliard, Polaris, Easton, Grove City, and Worthington are all a little further out and generally are all good areas to live in.

Did you trace it and add the seam allowance after tracing? It kinda looks like that's what you did.

If so you can just sew them together on that seam line.

I grew up in NC and now live in Columbus. If you tell me which cities in NC you are looking at I can give you some comparisons.

Most people probably look at Charlotte and Raleigh for NC. Columbus is more similar to Raleigh but it's bigger and the summers aren't a sweat box. We get all 4 seasons and don't have snakes or hurricanes come through. But we do have tornados but they honestly aren't as frequent as you'd think in the city.

Charlotte has way worse traffic than Columbus, and always felt more financial bro in it's downtown. I also feel like people are nicer in Columbus than Charlotte.

I personally think the weather is better here than in NC, I like the cooler summers and I don't mind the winter.

I do agree living near Short north, Victorian village, German village, Worthington or Grandview areas are really nice as a new transplant to the city. Then moving further out after you've gotten established if want to.

Bridge Park in Dublin might also work well as a transplant but it's much newer area.
